Touch-A-Truck
Saturday, May 4
I thought the smoke stacks at Armstrong World Industries behind the TFC parking lot made an interesting picture as I waited in the car for Cerwin to get his truck keys.
It is rare that we go through our home town of Manheim with the chapel.
We arrived at this interesting community event about 8:30 a.m.
The purpose of this day is to teach the community – especially children – about the equipment used by local companies and raise money for the Richland Library.
It was a beautiful, cool morning.
This drag racing rail car got a lot of attention when it arrived. It was incredibly loud.
There was even a school bus.
Cupboard Wagon is based just up the street, and uses this double trailer when delivering cupboards to homes where a full rig does not fit in the streets.
He said that he had an upcoming delivery to two homes in the same town, and will drop the back trailer in a large lot, deliver the first load, go back to the lot, drop the first trailer, pick up the second trailer, and make the second delivery.
Look for this new rig at our upcoming Truck Rally on June 22.
The children loved climbing into this vehicle.
Actually, they liked climbing into all of the vehicles.
We had lots of visitors to the chapel – many thinking that it was the chapel from nearby Frystown where we have a permanent chapel.
It was good to know that many of them had noticed that chapel, even though most of the visitors on this day were not truck drivers.
This man works for Binkley and Hurst – another Richland business – and said that he was supposed to say hi to us from our grandson Josiah who is a welder for Binkley and Hurst.
Josiah came to visit us shortly after noon – after he finished working.
We ran PowerPoint slides so visitors could learn about TFC. Some were glad for a place to sit and rest awhile – and watch the slides.
It was interesting to watch children “bring” their parents or grandparents into the chapel.
When not busy in the chapel, I enjoyed watching children running ahead of their parents as they hurried to climb into a vehicle.
Our friend Geff watches as this lady takes a picture of her child in his truck.
Eunice’s granddaughters enjoyed pretending to drive this vehicle.
By 2:00 p.m. the event was over and the trucks headed home.
I loved traveling through the countryside and seeing farmers working in the fields.
It was another busy, delightful day.
