Baked Goods Benefit for TFC

Saturday, October 13

 

We were up early (3:30 a.m.) so we could leave the house by 4:30 and be at the International Office by 5:00 to take International Chapel #2 to Menges Diner by 6:00 a.m.

 

Bill Menges wanted us to be there before the breakfast crowd arrived. He had blocked off an area for our rig, to make sure that cars didn’t block our entrance.

 

 

 

 

By sunrise the chapel was set up and we were enjoying breakfast in the diner.

 

 

By the time we finished breakfast, the York Chapter ladies were organizing and pricing the incoming items in the pavilion which is attached to the diner.

 

 

They were overwhelmed by the number of people who brought baked goods.

 

 

Items that could be stacked on top of each other were because there were so many things.

 

 

People were buying the goods even before everything was organized. Marie Miller (green coat) was the cashier for most of the day.

Notice that she is wearing gloves. It was a cold, frosty morning.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Since it was the second Saturday of the month (the day for the York Chapter Prayer Breakfast), those who could, came into the chapel for a time of prayer and sharing.

What fun when Pastor Dave recognized Cerwin as “Double Bottom.” Cerwin acquired that CB handle when he drove a propane truck with two tanks – a tank truck that pulled a pup.

They hadn’t seen each other in thirty years. Dave remembered that Cerwin ministered encouragement to him when their driving schedules brought them together in a local restaurant.

 

 

Baked goods continued to sell all day long.

 

 

 

 

Shortly after lunch a photographer from Gettysburg Times came to see what was going on. He had been invited by Willis Hartman (back to camera).

 

 

We had promised to keep the chapel there until 2:00 p.m. and before leaving, checked to see what we could purchase. After Cerwin bought a rhubarb pie, the ladies insisted that we take a few other things at no charge.  How nice of them.

Some of the York Chapter members stayed until the supper crowd was over. If I understood correctly, they were going to give unsold items to a local facility that cares for handicapped people.
