Three Transport For Christ Chapels

First, the current status of the chapel construction for Flying J Travel Plaza, Frystown, Pennsylvania.
The new chapel was pulled out of Transport For Christ’s shop on April 11 and taken for sandblasting, painting, and lettering. Sandblasting is done at Amos and Mervin Weaver’s shop near Ephrata.
While it was out of the shop Cerwin built the framework for the bed for the living quarters.
He makes it long enough to fit a super single mattress. The frame must also be high enough for a trundle (pop-up frame and regular-size single mattress) to fit underneath. Sometimes a chaplain’s wife stays with him or there could be a chaplain trainee staying overnight.
He also builds a podium, donation box, and exterior awnings for the doors and window during this time.
By April 26 it was being painted at Trans Equipment, Ephrata.
They did an excellent paint job. Cerwin picked it up on May 1 and moved it to the lettering shop near Denver (Pennsylvania not Colorado). ![]()
Eckert’s Sign Shop was prepared to letter it immediately.
Cerwin picked it up yesterday and brought it back to the TFC shop. There are just a few more details to finish before it will be moved to the Flying J.
Cerwin went to the Flying J last week to see how their construction and remodeling is coming along.
You may remember that we pulled the old chapel out and brought in International Chapel #1 as it can operate on generator if necessary. It is parked beside the shop during reconstruction of the truck stop.

Wytheville, Virginia, Chapel Repair – April 24
This chapel needed a new air conditioner before summer, and Chaplain David also wanted Cerwin and Glenn to look at the entrance door. The conclusion was that a new door needed to be ordered. (It just came into Lezzer Lumber today, so the guys will soon be making another seven-hour drive to southern Virginia.)

Moving the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Chapel
Because the chapel was blocking the view of the truck garage, the new company who leased the building asked if the chapel could be moved about two hundred feet.
Glenn Fahnestock (right) talking to Derrick Bross (Bethel Truck Service) as he prepared to move the entire rig.
Going across the parking lot.
In its new location next to McDonalds.
After moving the chapel, Derrick picked up the deck with his tow truck and Glenn and Cerwin guided it as they carefully moved it next to the chapel.
Cerwin and Glenn went back today to put everything in place and make a few repairs. There had to be a few height adjustments and a step added. They also had to make a few repairs where a trucker backed into it – sometime between Monday and Wednesday.
You can easily see the new deck posts and step because they have not yet been painted. Cerwin and Glenn just finished the adjustments at 5:30 this evening.

Now you know what Cerwin and Glenn were doing the past few weeks.
