Japanese Lunch & New Bird Feeder
Thai Iced Tea
Yesterday after Deb and I enjoyed manicures and pedicures, we had lunch at a Japanese restaurant not far from where she and Roy live.
Most of these photos were taken by cell phone – the reason the quality is not as good as our cameras.
We shared a Sassy Lady appetizer, which as you can see is sushi. (spicy tuna, asparagus, seaweed, rice, spicy mayonnaise, and cashews.)
Next we shared Vegetable Fried Rice.
And you guessed it, we also shared dessert – Mango Sticky Rice.
Everything was incredibly delicious.
I arrived at the mall early and Deb was a bit late, so I had about twenty minutes to shop at Goodwill where I saw a woman examining the metal creation above. As I looked at it, I thought, “I could make a bird feeder out of that.”
When she put it back on the shelf, I asked if she was sure she didn’t want it. She loved it, but didn’t know what to do with it. I told her that I was going to find something for the center and make a bird feeder.
I found a light globe that was a perfect fit.
After I removed the metal fixtures…
…I cut a circle out of a thin scrubby to cover the hole – keeping the seeds from falling through and creating drainage for rain.
There were also a bunch of “dangly things”, some of which were broken, that came off easily with a pliers.
I love it!
$2.50 for the hanging part and $1.50 for the globe. There were 8 scrubbies for $1.00 of which I used one. Total cost for this feeder – about $4.13.
It didn’t take long for the first house finch to find the seed.

I have been enjoying a fairly relaxing week because my main computer crashed sometime last Wednesday night.
I was partially up and running by Friday evening. More files were transferred and things attached and hooked up by Monday evening. Yesterday afternoon my old Outlook email addresses and calendar were transferred, and today I had fun learning how to operate Windows 7 and Office 10 Professional. I had been using Windows 3 and Office 3 Professional.
I feel like I went from a horse and buggy to a jet.
I thought it was interesting that not one staff person sent me a newsletter in the past week. That is my job – doing the layout and design and mailing of their letters. A few do their own layout and design – but I do all the mailings. It is a rare week that I don’t have a newsletter to work on. I average about 2 a week.
I always have addresses to add and update, and thought this was going to be a good week for that – but that will have to wait for another time. I did work through the udate for the Post Office – for bulk mailings – which has to be done by January 1. It creates an updated barcode.
By the end of my workday yesterday I was comfortable with my new computer and felt like I was ready for a newsletter. I received an email earlier in the day saying that one was in the works, and between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. I received emails about two others that will soon arrive, and tonight I received a fourth newsletter!
Sometimes God’s timing makes me smile.
