Field Work & Dandelion
Plus a Few Other Things
One day last week I noticed that the crop in the field next to us had been cut and raked into neat rows.
That evening, when walking toward the field to get a closeup, I saw a very large bird and recognized it as a turkey buzzard (I had hoped it was an eagle).
It was still fun to watch it fly away. A mature turkey buzzard has a five to six foot wingspan.
It was a beautiful spring evening.
At first I thought this was alfalfa, but as I walked by today, I noticed that the alfalfa was still standing.
That means this is some kind of cover crop, and the field will probably soon be prepared for corn.
When going back to our yard, I noticed several dandelions that were preparing to spread their seeds when a slight breeze came by.
The dogwood are still looking good, but it won’t be long until these pretty flowers will be gone for another year.
When I turned around I noticed this pretty sunset.
Just after sunset I heard a familiar sound outside.
They were harvesting the crop.

The next morning.
The field is empty.
I never tire of seeing robins at our bird bath. This one is probably thinking, “I wish the lady of the house would put some water in this thing.”
