Road Trip

~ Pennsylvania to Michigan ~

Sunday, October 2 & Monday, October 3

1a (1)

The first few hours were cloudy and rainy.

 1a (2)

And then, to our surprise, we saw snow!

1a (3)

We were on Route 322 near Philipsburg, Pennsylvania.

1a (4)

The leaves haven’t even changed yet – except for certain species.

1a (5)

Before long we were back to wet roads from a constant drizzle.

That evening we were surprised when we got to the room we booked (two weeks earlier) at LaQuinta near Perrysburg, Ohio.

We had a suite!

I kept thinking that someone would come and tell us they gave us the wrong room. I’m not sure how or why we were upgraded, but it was nice having a lounge area to relax and work on the Powerpoint slides I was finalizing for TFC’s Staff Conference.

Monday morning was cool and dry. Because Pennsylvania only allows five-axled trucks, Cerwin enjoys seeing lots of wheels on the trucks in some of the states to our west.

1a (7)

He was quick to notice that this truck was not loaded (or fully loaded) because some of the axles were up.

1a (8)

We went through areas where the trees were beginning to color.

1a (9)

Because we did not have a heavy driving day, we made plans to visit our niece Juanita. We had never seen her new apartment. Notice her canned products to the left.

1a (10)

I took several pictures of her apartment for the benefit of our children, her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

1a (11)

It is a nice, cozy, upstairs apartment.

1a (12)

I love her bedroom/sitting room.

1a (13)

Her desk.

After our visit, we called her mother (Cerwin’s sister) to tell her that she has taught her daughter well. She keeps a neat apartment…

1a (17)

…and made us a delicious lunch.

1a (18)

Corn/potato/ham chowder, plus a few other vegetables.

1a (19)

We enjoyed our two-hour visit, and would have enjoyed visiting another hour or two, but had to keep moving – and she had to be at one of her jobs (caring for an aged woman) by 2:00 p.m.

1a (21)

The entrance to her apartment.

1a (22)

You can see part of her garden on the left, the owners dogs, and a small flower shop that is operated by someone in the area.

1a (23)

We arrived at Maranatha Bible and Missionary Conference grounds, Muskegon, Michigan, about 4:00 p.m., with time to unpack and visit with staff until suppertime at 5:30.
