TFC York Chapter Dinner Concert
Saturday Evening, April 16
We arrived at the Dover Fire Hall before most of the others to set up the 2010 Truck Rally slides and prepare for Cerwin’s part of the evening.
The chapter leadership decided to try a silent auction this year.
There were lots of nice items.
Pickled Red Beets
Angel Food Cake with Pineapple and Whipped Cream topping. I bid on this (a few times) to make sure I got it. I needed a cake for lunch the next day.
Just about time to start.
Chapter Contact Person, Jim Wardrop (right) introduced Fred Miller, who prayed for the meal.
The fire hall waitresses and cooks.
The meal was delicious.
The Gabriels (Frank, George, and Derek) provided the concert, and blessed us with their inspiring songs and fabulous voices.
Chaplain Jake, who serves at the Frystown, Pennsylvania, Chapel, shared some of the happenings on that chapel.
He also serves as chaplain at a few truck terminals and a local truck driving school.
Cerwin gave a ministry update when Jake finished his part. I always forget to take a picture of Cerwin because I am usually forwarding the PowerPoint slides he uses for the update.
Derek (center) is the son of my cousin Diane and her husband, Keenan. They were in the audience, as well as my uncle Lester and aunt Hazel.
Whenever the song had a fast beat Derek’s son danced and twirled around not far from us. ![]()
Just after they announced that they were going to sing two more songs, someone from the kitchen told Jim (York Contact Person) that a dangerous storm was coming through the area. He advised us to close the program as quickly as possible because some areas were loosing electric.
Jim’s wife, Grace, announced the “winners” of the silent auction.
~~~
We didn’t hear or feel any effects of the storm while in the fire hall, but didn’t go many miles before we came upon areas that were out of electric. There were fire trucks and police cars in many sections of the town because of high water, no electric, and storm damage.
When we got home we heard that part of the roof was torn from a shopping mall in the area through which we traveled.
