Breakfast and The Rittenhouse Orchard
Sunday, October 3
On Sunday morning – following the truck show/pig roast/gospel concert – we enjoyed breakfast at Sam and Alice Rittenhouse’s house. Sam is known for his delicious buckwheat/cranberry/pecan pancakes.
Left to right: Sam, his sister Betty, his nephew Dale (where we stayed overnight), and Cerwin.
Chaplain Allan Graham stayed with Sam and Alice, and is seated on the right.
Most of this fruit is from Sam’s orchard or garden.
It is the end of the season so the trees are almost bare of fruit.
I did find a few apples
However, most are in baskets, have been sold, or were made into delicious apple cider.
Sam told me these are crabapples.
Calamondin Orange flowers
His hanging strawberries are still producing…
…as are the hanging tomatoes.
Plum tomatoes
The fig tree is almost bare of fruit, but I found one that looked ready to pick. Sam said he sold between 1,100 and 1,200 figs this summer.
He stores and sells them in egg cartons.
I wanted to get a picture of the fish in Dale’s fish pond, but they all hid under these water plants. Dale and his wife, Kristin, live next door to Sam and Alice. Kristin was in China visiting their daughter.
I love looking for fruit and beautiful flowers in Sam’s orchard.
