The Main Auction – Crafts & Quilts – Where I Spent Most of my Day

A view of the main auction – inside the fire hall – from the top of the steps. Notice the firemen’s coats along the back wall.

On this day the fire trucks are parked at a church in town, and at one point when the siren rang, I saw half-a-dozen firemen run toward a fire truck. It must not have been anything serious, because I never heard what happened.

Because my sister’s family is involved in this auction, I get the benefit of having a front-row seat. The two green chairs in the center are ours.

I enjoy watching the Amish auctioneers, callers, runners, and clerks at this sale. The callers (left and right) were so much fun to observe. They were lively and funny as they tried to get bidders to go higher.

I wasn’t in need of any craft items or quilts, and after sitting in the front row most of the day, one of the callers leaned forward at one point and said, “You know that when you sit in the front row you have to bid on something.”

This could be used as a birdbath or feeder – and almost tempted me to bid.

Toward the end of the auction, Cerwin and I decided this was perfect for the back room in our garage – so guests have a place to hang their jackets and coats.

…and this is perfect for our bedroom wall – next to Cerwin’s bureau. He always hangs shirts and slacks on a corner of his bureau drawer when he plans to wear them again the next day – or maybe even a few days later.
