The Season of Falling Leaves
Thursday, October 22
I am trying to savor the beauty in our little piece of God’s world these days, because I know colored leaves are short-lived.
Many are already on the ground.
Most perennials are also coming to a tattered end for another season.
The majority of crops have been harvested – leaving open fields in our neighborhood.
The standing corn that is left, will be picked and shelled.
Farmers are busy preparing crops and buildings for winter.
I don’t remember ever seeing this big, yellow piece of equipment in our neighborhood before this year. I saw it in Denny and Karen’s soybean field earlier in the day – so I expect it is a soybean harvester.
Decorative grasses are developing their fall and winter finery.
A few flowers survived the cold, frosty weather of a few weeks ago.
The leaves that fall to the ground…
…are giving Cerwin a secure job for the next few weeks.
The end result of the leaves from our eighty-plus trees.
Until these meet the same end – I am going to enjoy their beauty.
It is a delight to walk under our tall trees, feel the crunch of leaves, and inhale the scent of fall in our woodlot.
