The Purple Turtle

…running in the rain & surprise visitors

Saturday, October 24

Following our luncheon tea, we walked a few blocks to look for more bargains in consignment shops.

Main Street, Lititz is a wonderful place to walk on a nice fall afternoon.

We spent about half an hour in Always New to You, then went to Purple Turtle, where we were when it began raining.  Pouring rain!  We waited and waited.  The girls paid for their finds, and began modeling shoes.

They began adding purses – while Jenna (background) kept an eye on the weather.

Finally, we gave up and went out into the downpour.  Because we did not expect rain, the umbrellas were in the car – four blocks away.

We were drenched by the time we got to the car.  Shortly after getting inside, they began laughing and laughing, and asked for my camera.

Grandma, you must put this picture on Xanga!

By the time we got home, their bags had torn, and we were ready for dry clothes.

I took a shower, washed my hair, put on a house coat, and relaxed, while the girls changed to dry clothes.  While still in that state of dress, Cerwin said, “You may want to change your clothes.  We have company!”

After a quick comb and change, I was presentable to visit with a Xanga friend.

What fun to visit with Bonnie and Tom Peachey from South Carolina.  They were visiting our (almost next door) neighbors, and asked if they knew where we lived.  They did, and directed them to our house.  Bonnie’s family attended our church when she was young.  (For locals, she is the daughter of Raymond & Janet Witmer).  Her family moved to another area when she was a small girl.

She does not put information on her blog, but has it to read and comment on her friend’s Xanga sites.  I have received comments from her, and knew she reads my site.

We were so blessed and honored that they stopped in to see us.  They felt a bit awkward doing that without calling – especially when I had to quickly change clothes and comb!  I hope we made them feel welcome, because life is too short to not visit with friends – or make new ones.

By evening there were four pair of girls shoes drying near our propane fireplace…

…and they were showered, drying their hair, and playing games.

It was a wonderful, memorable Saturday.
