Alarm 5:00 a.m. ~ Bed 11:30 p.m.

Saturday

We were out of the house in time to pick up Bunny & Peg O’Hare by 6:30 a.m.

Sat 1 (2)

Our next stop was the beautiful Fireplace Room at Brethren Home, New Oxford, Pennsylvania.

Phil Miller welcomed everyone to the York Chapter Prayer Breakfast.

Beautiful music by one of the chapter members – before Cerwin and Bunny shared TFC ministry updates.  My job is to arrange PowerPoint photos to go with their presentations.  The guys like when I do this, because it helps the audience visualize what they are sharing – chapel, truck stop, or person.

Following an encouraging morning with this group, we stopped to visit Paul and Mary Schildt.  He was the contact person for this chapter for many years.  Before retiring, he also served as a volunteer chaplain at several local chapels – Elkton, Harrisburg, and Frystown.  His health is frail, as he struggles with a form of dementia.  He seemed to know us and appreciate the visit.  Mary said, we should come again, as her days sometimes get long.  We were glad we took time to visit.

Then we had time to redeem – I don’t like saying time to kill – about two hours.  We knew we wanted to have a light lunch somewhere, and as we were traveling east, I remembered the John Wright Restaurant on the Wrightsville side of the Susquehanna River.  We’ve heard that it is an interesting place to eat.

It is a restored warehouse, which includes a gift shop and restaurant.

When being directed to our table, I noticed this dessert, and thought this just might be the day I skip lunch and go directly to dessert!

Sat 1 (8).JPG

Peg, Bunny, and Cerwin chose sensible things – like grilled cheese sandwiches and clam chowder.

When the waitress came for our order, I asked her to tell me about the lemon/berry dessert I noticed.  She replied, “It is FABULOUS.”

“Say no more, I’ll have that.”

Oh, my.  It looks so good!

This was their immediate reaction!

I told them they could each have a taste, if I could get a picture.

It was incredibly delicious.  It was a kind of shortcake.  I want to go back real soon.

Sat 1 (13).JPG

This was the view of the Columbia/Wrightsville bridge and the Susquehanna River from our table.

Sat 1 (12).JPG

It was raining by the time we left.  I want to go back on a sunny day – not just for a better photo – but for that dessert. I also saw someone with a very interesting looking salad.

From there we crossed the bridge and spent half-an-hour shopping in a thrift shop in Columbia – then it was time for the two-and-a-half-hour drive to Pittsgrove, New Jersey, for the TFC South Jersey Banquet.

Sat 1 (14).JPG

This is why we wanted a light lunch.

Sat 1 (15).JPG

We were glad there was a buffet, so we could carefully chose our food.

Sat 1 (16).JPG

I always enjoy checking out the pretty lights in this room.  Notice Bunny, Cerwin, and Sam Rittenhouse at the head of the second table.  The guys gave the same ministry update – and included Sam – while I showed the PowerPoint slides.

Hawley Ham is a talented musician.  He is the one who sang the song which included my favorite quote of the day.

The chorus went something like this…

Your walk talks

And your talk talks

But your walk talks louder than your talk talks.

Sat 1 (18).JPG

Don “Duck” Davis shared a fabulous challenge on getting involved in sharing the gospel of Christ.  He is a truck driver and member of the South Jersey Chapter.

It was a very good day.
