I Am In Trouble With Our Favorite Nathan!

I forgot to wish him a happy birthday on June 16.

It was his sixteenth birthday!

That wasn’t his only disappointment that day!  His dad was baling hay for Mary Jane, a neighbor lady, when the baler broke down, delaying the birthday party several hours.

His driver test even had to be delayed a day.

I was pleased to see him respond with the maturity of someone older than sixteen, when he came home from work (milking for a neighboring farmer), took a shower in preparation for his birthday party, and discovered that his dad needed him to help unload hay.

His dad (our son Jeff) was in the haymow stacking bales.

A neighbor came to help when he heard about the delay Jeff had because of the broken baler.

While the men finished unloading the hay, the girls occupied themselves doing other things.

Gloria used the elevator to do some gymnastics when no one was using it.

It was dark by the time we got back to the house and Gloria could play with her kitten.

Finally, after a quick supper, it was time for the party!

Sixteen is one of the neatest ages, because the opportunity to drive a car is getting within reach.

He did take the computerized part of his driver test the next day – and passed – meaning he has a permit and can drive with an adult driver in the car.

After he passed his test, the officer said, “Now you can go home and terrorize the neighborhood.”

And he probably will!  He loves loud, fast cars.

We love you, Nathan.
