Bible School Safari
Monday, July 6 – Friday, July 10
The life-sized giraffe – whose head towered above the balcony safety rail – went unoticed until you turned around to leave the sanctuary.
His buddy the monkey hung on the rail next to him.
Even though I knew he was there, his head still surprised me when I went on the balcony to take pictures.
Each evening at seven o’clock sharp, children and teachers entered the sanctuary and went to their assigned seats.
The theme song was part of each evening, and became more meaningful as the week progressed.
Storytime was a favorite for everyone. On this particular evening the people in “the kingdom” (left) had a dilemma do deal with, as the “evil one” had captured their princess (right).
It was determined that Kurt (yellow shirt) would be sent to rescue her.
I should have taken notes so I could remember the names of each character. In this photo the king is giving Kurt directions.
Confronting the “evil one.”
Each time Kurt lost the battle, he was given another piece of armor: sandals of peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, sword of the spirit, breastplate of righteousness.
Finally, after being outfitted with the whole armor of God, he was able to win the battle.
I apologize for a few blurred photos. I did not want use a flash and tried to zoom when I should have relied on cropping after taking the photo.
Kurt chasing the evil one out the door.
A successful rescue!
The kingdom is again at peace.
Following storytime, the children’s classes exited the sanctuary and went to their rooms. The adult class remained in the auditorium.
Thursday night was parents night, which meant that when Bible School was over, the children could show their room and projects to their parents, friends, and grandparents. This was our granddaughter Lydia’s class.
She was pleased with the Connect Four game she designed.
Our grandson Ian (red shirt) showing his parents some of the things he did in Bible School.

Jared showing Jere and Kristen his projects.
We did not have any grandchildren in this room, but I just had to take a photo. These students must have felt like they were having class in a jungle.
Diana was excited to show us the lawn chair she decorated.
Gloria painted a birdhouse and designed a colored sand photo frame. On Friday night (when I was without camera) she again showed me the frame, which now included a photo of her that was taken during Bible School.
When we arrived early on Friday evening, we noticed that the leopard had fallen from its tree perch. Before long Joel had it back in place.
These animals were well-done by some very talented people from our church.
The pulpit area was where the baby elephant and baby hippos lived during the week.

The full-grown African Elephant overwhelmed the front of the church. This is the largest walking mammal, but we learned that there is one mammal larger than the large African elephant.
The blue whale is the largest mammal on earth and can grow up to 100 feet long. I just “googled” blue whale, and the information said that a blue whale’s tongue weighs as much as an elephant.
If they had designed a life-sized blue whale, and put it in the center aisle of our church – with it’s nose on the pulpit – they would have had to open the main entrance doors in the narthex so there was room for its tail.

Special thanks to every teacher, superintendent, and the designers of these animals.
