A Glorious Day

Tuesday, April 1

My day started with keeping our two youngest grandchildren for a short time.

They were here while Kristen took Ian for his kindergarten test.

The quote of the day happened when they returned, and Ian noticed that our garage was set up for company.

“Grandma, did you have a party without me?”

I loved that!

The garage was set up for the lunch and meeting we had on Sunday, and since my family’s Easter celebration is at our place this coming Sunday, we didn’t bother putting the tables and carpet away.

After they left, I completed a few pages of a newsletter, then decided to get some fresh air.   I had been extremely busy and office-bound for the past few weeks.

It was warm and beautiful outside.

The crocus are in full bloom.

Asian Lady Beetles are coming out of their winter hibernation.

Then it was time to go to the post office.  During the return trip, the beautiful weather lured me into parking the car and spending a few minutes at my brothers’ farm pond.

The Mallards did not appreciate my presence, and soon left the area.

Frogs disappeared into the water on the marshy edge.

The real reason I stopped, was to see if I could get a good picture of the Canada Geese who make this their springtime nesting grounds.

As I slowly approached, she stayed low – probably hoping I wouldn’t notice her.

However, when I got within five or six feet of the nest, she sat upright and kept a close eye on me.

Then an interesting thing happened overhead.  A goose came from a neighboring pond (a quarter of a mile away) and gave me a good scolding for getting so close to his friend’s nest.

The noise and my presence was not lost on this cow.

We were honored to be invited to the home of friends for supper,  where our evangelist, his wife, our oldest son, and his family were also guests.

This is why I like to always have my camera nearby – even when we are traveling a short distance.  You never know what will happen.  This old car was ahead of us for part of the two-mile drive.

The Diffenderfer’s live about a mile away (as the crow flies), but because we have to follow the road, the drive is closer to two miles.

John and Kathy (both standing) served a delicious meal.  We did not know Ray (the evangelist) or his wife, so it was interesting to discover that we know her brother, Dale, who is a member at the same church in Maine as our daughter and her family.

After supper the children played basketball outside in the driveway until it was time to go to church.

So ended the first day of April in our neighborhood.
