We left Thunder Bay in the rain on Monday morning but could see blue skies ahead.
There is still ice on many lakes.
Soon we were driving in beautiful sunshine and seeing beautiful scenery.
When traveling from Thunder Bay, Ontario, to International Falls, Minnesota, there is a lot of road, forest, and not much of anything else.
Every now and then we would see a lake – especially as we approached the border.
We crossed the border easily, then had lunch at a Burger King in International Falls.
The dirt road that leads to Bob and Doris’ house (Cerwin’s youngest sister).
Willie was the first to welcome us.
I was pleased that they were still cooking maple syrup.
I knew they were coming to the end of the season and thought we might miss it.
Bob explaining the process to Cerwin.
Doris, Bob, and the boiling sap.
I will tell you more about their process of making maple syrup in my next entry.
The trees are beautiful — but the forest doesn’t look very healthy — or is that just because it’s early in the season? Such beautiful countryside! I’ll be very interested in the maple syrup process!
Yes, that is because trees up here are just starting to bud. It’s been very warm here the past few days, so they will soon have leaves on their trees.
