This Hershey family gathering at our house consists of my siblings, their children, and grandchildren.
Two willing and very helpful granddaughters ~ Jana and Gloria ~ came home with us after church to help us get ready for the evening meal.
We made 96 mini ham and cheese sandwiches which would be baked just before supper.
After that they helped Grandpa set up the food table ~ which had to be brought up from the pavilion.
I often think of my Grandpa and Grandma Hawthorne when we use this table. My dad bought it at their household auction for a few dollars ~ probably forty years ago.
People began arriving shortly before 3:00 p.m. for visiting, and those with children came by 4:00 p.m. to participate in the egg hunt that our daughter Deb organizes.
Heidi, I think you missed an egg in the tree behind you.
I think Jared has his limit of fourteen eggs.
Jesse counting his before picking up the one at his foot.
Jesse was happy with those he found.
Gloria (right) helped Bella and Molly.
After each child (age 12 and under) had their fourteen eggs, they opened them, put the eggs in a large container ~ to be used again next year ~ and their prizes back in their basket or bag.
Parents and grandparents watched as the children brought their eggs to Deb.
If there was a note inside an egg stating that they won a prize, they showed it to Deb and chose something from her stash.
We were grateful to God for a beautiful day ~ in between several cool or rainy days.
More tomorrow night.
I hope Jana’s dental work is healing well — looks like she felt fine! The little ones are so sweet with their Easter eggs — and kudos to Deb for organizing such a great hunt! I love the one hidden in the tree trunk! We used to find jelly beans in the telephone dial, and in calla lillies, etc — such fun!
This event was before her surgery. I didn’t hear from her yesterday ~ because we were away all day ~ so I suppose she is doing well.
