Moving the Life-Saver Chapel

Chaplain Jay Schock – Lead Chaplain at Elkton TA Travel Center – watches as Glenn Fahnestock begins the process of removing the ramp to the chapel.

The truck stop management asked if the chapel could be moved to the other side of the building. It was parked close to the fuel island and sometimes caused a problem for the traffic flow.

Removing the ramp from its old location was a major job.

Now instead of being next to the fuel island, it is next to the restaurant.

 

 

Chaplain Jay is pleased with the new location. It was a bit noisy next to the fuel island. This is a much quieter spot.

The guys are now down to trim work, and as soon as the paint shop is ready, the exterior will be sandblasted and painted by Mel Weaver – then it will go to Eckert’s for lettering.

Spider Webs

 

 

Yesterday was a delightful foggy morning that drew me outside. I wasn’t sure what I would find.

 

 

Everywhere I looked I found spider webs.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I find them so fascinating.

The 23rd Annual “Truckers Day At The Buck”

In our area there is a small town named Buck where Buck Motorsports is undoubtedly the most famous landmark. We can hardly talk about Buck without putting the word “the” in front of it. 

So when I told people that we were taking TFC’s International Chapel #1 to The Buck, they knew exactly where we were going.

 

 

It was a beautiful dew-laden morning on Saturday when we arrived at the International Office to get the chapel.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

After learning about Evening Primrose from Geff & Sharyn Stoner, Cerwin noticed some next to the office.

 

 

We got to The Buck just before 8 a.m. and had visitors all day long.

 

 

 

 

I barely had time to walk around and take pictures. I don’t think Cerwin did get to see the trucks, – we love when we are that busy.

A few came to share situations for which they wanted prayer. Most just had questions about the ministry.

At 1:00 p.m. I left Cerwin and two chaplains (Jake and Bob) with the visitors, got my free meal ticket, and took a walk.

By 3:30 p.m. the competition was over and drivers who weren’t staying for the evening truck pulls began leaving.

 

 

 

 

The arrival of pull trucks added some excitement to the late afternoon.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

By 4:00 p.m. most vendors leave to make room for those who attend the evening truck pulls. Chaplains Bob and Jake helped Cerwin take the steps down and put them in the storage bins under the chapel.

Jared’s Braces

 

 

Jared and his mom came by today to show me his new braces.

 

 

He wanted me to feature them on my blog tonight, and let everyone know why he chose orange and black as his colors.

 

 

He wants them to match Uncle Roy’s Harley Davidson.

 

 

 

God didn’t give us a cowardly spirit but a spirit of power, love, and good judgment.

Great Horned Owl

 

 

Tonight while we were having a Sunday school picnic at our pavilion, someone said, “There’s a large owl in your tree.”

I took this picture at a safe distance – almost directly above us.

 

 

Then I moved a bit closer. It was easy to photograph because it was so large. It flew away as I tried to get even closer.

According to my Stokes Field Guide to Birds (Eastern Region) it is a Great Horned Owl. Some of you are avid birders. What do you think?
