Description of Guidance

G = God

U & I Dance

I recently read this method of describing the word “Guidance,” and love to imagine myself dancing with God – letting Him take the lead – following His steps.

As Cerwin’s family and many friends prayed for his mother, and the decisions we and the doctors made concerning the blood clot and mass in her neck, we truly felt His guidance.

1 (7).JPG

Thanks to everyone who prayed for and with us.

~~~
Mother just called a few minutes ago, and was excited to report that she may be going home tomorrow, if all continues in the direction it went today.
~~~

We praise God for leading us in this particular “dance”, and know He will continue to do so each time we need His guidance.

Sunday

Mother woke up at 4:00 AM today and felt the Lord telling her to be anointed.

1 (6).JPG

By 2:00 PM her church’s leadership team, as well as Cerwin’s siblings were in her hospital room.

Left to right:  Velda (Cerwin’s sister), Cerwin, Mother, (Cerwin’s sister Doris and her husband – from Minnesota – were there via the cell phone on Mother’s lap), Wes (pastor), David (deacon), Elvin (Cerwin’s brother), and Mike (pastor).

The anointing service was incredibly meaningful.

~~~
Mother’s original problem – high blood pressure due to a blood clot in her left jugular vein – is being taken care of by blood thinner.
During the testing of the blood clot, a mass was discovered in her neck, and a biopsy was recommended.
Mother and her family were not very comfortable having a biopsy done.  She is almost 90 years old and did not want any kind of treatment or surgery if the mass is malignant.  (Surgery would require separating her jaw.)  The doctors agreed that a biopsy was not necessary if she did not want surgery or treatment.
We all have a great peace at calling off the biopsy.  Our conclusion was that if it is not malignant, it is unnecessary, and if it is malignant, why stir up the cells.
The mass will be monitored every few months, giving us time to change our minds if God so leads.
Saturday
Cerwin and I were up early – a second morning in a row – to attend the TFC Prayer Breakfast near Elkton, MD.
1.JPG
Chaplain Sam ordered a plate of well-done bacon in honor of Volunteer Chaplain Bob who was killed in a truck accident since the last prayer breakfast.  Bob always ordered a plate of almost burnt bacon – because it is how he liked it prepared.  It was a rather tearful time as each of us took a piece of bacon in his memory.
1 (1).JPG
After we were finished with breakfast Jim, a former chaplain with TFC in Elkton, challenged us to walk in faith and allow the Lord to transform our lives.
1 (2).JPG
Following the breakfast there was an Openhouse Farewell for the Life-Saver chapel which is placed at the Elkon Travel Center.  In two weeks, this chapel will be replaced by a newer one.
After a few snacks – and Cerwin checked out some measurement details for moving the new chapel into this spot – we headed for Grantville to bring the mobile chapel back to the International Office.
Howard said many people from the Baptist Convention enjoyed learning about TFC’s chapel ministry to truck drivers.
1 (4).JPG
Before long we were back on the road with the International mobile chapel.  I am sure glad I don’t have to spend every day on an Interstate!
After Cerwin backed the chapel into it’s parking spot, we headed for the hospital to relieve Cerwin’s sister, and take the evening shift with his mother.
She is doing well, and adjusting to blood thinner (because of the blood clot).  Our biggest concern tonight is the mass that was discovered in her neck.  It is not something we can feel, nor did she know it was there.
Friday
3207.JPG
We were awakened early by the alarm so we could be ready to leave the TFC International Office by 7:00 AM.
3207 (1).JPG
It was a rainy and sometimes foggy drive.
3207 (2).JPG
This time I was following the chapel, so Cerwin had a way home.
3207 (3).JPG
Our destination was the Holiday Inn near Grantville, PA, for a Baptist Convention – Empower 2007 – where Bunny O’Hare and Howard Moses were representing TFC.
3207 (4).JPG
By the time the men figured out how to get the rig into the parking lot and located a spot approved by the manager of the Inn, the rain had stopped, making it nice for Cerwin and Howard to set up the steps.
3207 (5).JPG
From there we took I-81 south to the next exit to keep a breakfast appointment with Chaplain David Roberts at the Harbor Light Chapel, Harrisburg, PA.
As we were walking from the chapel to the restaurant, a driver entered the truck stop and blew his horn at us.  As Scott entered the restaurant, I noticed him looking toward our table, and figured he was the driver who just blew his horn at us – and motioned for him to sit down.  (Every driver recognizes Chaplain David’s hat!)
Driver Scott and Chaplain David
We were thrilled with God’s guidance and timing – that we would be there the same time as Scott, a driver who stopped in with Chaplain David just before Christmas, and was back (for just one hour) to pick up some Christian tapes and talk with David.
~~~

His testimony reminded me of the following verses:  So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.

For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.  I Corinthians 3:7-9 KJV

You will understand why I thought of these verses as you notice the bold/underlined words.

~~~
He has an awesome testimony of God’s guidance.  Four months ago, when he was at the end of his rope, and staying in a motel, he picked up a Gideon Bible and took it with him.  He calls it his miracle book.  A short time later he met a chaplain from Truck Stop Ministries (a sister ministry to truck drivers) where the chaplain led him to the Lord.  He had no idea how to walk with God, and a few days later ended up in a truck stop where all his vices were available – women, drugs, and alcohol.
In an effort to resist temptation, he walked across the street to a small church where they “happened” to be holding a seminar for people who were dealing with divorce – which is where he was.  His wife left him a few weeks earlier.
Another week or two later when he was looking for a church, he walked into a very large church, where someone asked if they can help him, he said, “Yes, I need help with alcoholism.”  After the service, they put him in touch with AA.  He had been drinking since the age of 12.
Then, just before Christmas he came to the TFC Chapel at Harrisburg, and met Chaplain David.  The previous two months were a learning experience for Scott.  He didn’t understand that you can’t walk with the Lord and continue in sin.  On this particular night he and David discussed sexual sin and Scott began to understand that he could not continue in a relationship with the woman who was in his truck.
Today he came back to tell David that he was clean from drugs and alcohol, and the woman was no longer living in his truck.  One of the things that thrilled us was his hunger for Truth.  He said he can hardly wait to get to the next chapel to get Christian cassette tapes.
Pray for Scott
Bob and Chaplain David
Scott had to get on the road to make his delivery, and his seat was barely empty when Bob arrived.  He owns the restaurant and is Chairman of TFC’s Board of Directors.  We didn’t expect to see him because he isn’t usually there on Fridays.
It was an honor to spend twenty minutes with him.
~~~

From there we came home to do a few things, then went to the hospital to visit Cerwin’s mother.

3207 (8).JPG

She is in the hospital for tests after it was discovered that her blood pressure was very high.  Tests revealed that she has a blood clot in her jugular vein.  Several more tests showed there are some suspicious masses on both sides of her neck.  She has been put on blood thinner, and will have a biopsy on the masses, hopefully on Monday.

Keep her in your prayers.

3207 (9).JPG

 Pretty flowers from her church family.

~~~
After leaving the hospital at 7:00 PM, we stopped at Sears to look at microwaves and small refrigerators for chapels.  We were pleased to find just what we had been looking for – in size and quality.
Then we stopped at Chilli’s for a very late supper.  When we left, Cerwin made a wrong turn, had to turn around and go by the front door of the restaurant another time – where our waitress was standing – looking for us – because Cerwin left his credit card on the payment tray!
~~~

It was certainly a God directed day!

We had a long, awesome day!

The alarm went off at 5:00 AM, and we arrived home a few minutes ago.

I will tell you about it tomorrow

I need to go to bed!

The Last Two Beatitudes

Because we were at TFC’s Retreat on February 18, we missed the sermon at church, so before posting the last beatitude, I wanted to listen to the seventh.  I did that tonight.

The 7th Beatitude

by Pastor David Wenger

Blessed are the peacemakers:  for they shall be called the children of God.

Matthew 5:9 KJV

ft (8).JPG

A little boy described peace as “feeling smooth inside.”

~~~
You are a peacemaker when you make peace with God.
You are a peacemaker when you help others make peace with God.
~~~

A peacemaker is quick to forgive and looks for ways to strengthen relationships.

A peacemaker wants peace more than he wants to get his own way.

~~~
Don’t mistreat someone who has mistreated you…
Do your best to live at peace with everyone.
…don’t try to get even.  Let God take revenge…
The Lord says, “I am the one to take revenge and pay them back.”
…If your enemies are hungry, give them something to eat.
And if they are thirsty, give them something to drink…
Don’t let evil defeat you, but defeat evil with good.
Romans 12:17-21 CEV
~~~

The 8th Beatitude

by Pastor Samuel Cassel

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake:  for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  Matthew 5:10  KJV

 ft (11).JPG

Why is there religious persecution?

Righteousness irritates those who hate God.

Christians stand in the way of the plans of evil people.

~~~
Not all religious persecution is for the sake of Christ.
Beware that you are not persecuted for stubbornness sake.
~~~

Persecution empowers godly men and women.

Do not worry about possible persecution – God will give grace when we need it.

~~~
In the meantime – be faithful to God.
Quiet Boys?
Our two little grandsons were here for a short time this morning and wanted to cut pictures out of old magazines.
I was just around the corner working on my laptop, and assumed that is what they were doing!
ft.JPG
Like most mothers and grandmothers, I suddenly realized it was too quiet, so checked on their cutting progress!  Jared, that is not paper!
ft (1).JPG
ft (3).JPG
Ian thought vines were a lot more fun than paper.
It could have been worse.  The vine needed some trimming!
 ~~~

 I was in the mood to experiment with pictures tonight.

Be Still & Remember

God cares about burdens that

Hang in your mind like anchors.

He cares about concerns that

Knaw away at the edges of your spirit.

He is concerned about fears that

Lurk in the corners of your soul.

The flowers are from our Saturday night banquet.  I thought flowers seemed refreshing for a post entered this time of year.
