Backtracking

Now that we are in East St Louis, I have time to post some pictures from earlier in the week.

Monday in Maine.

Maine 1.JPG

Cerwin’s first job was removing leaves, stems, etc. from the wild blueberries.

Maine 1 (1).JPG

He thought he would rather do that than pick beans!

Maine 1 (2).JPG

That’s what everyone else did after breakfast.

Maine 1 (3).JPG

Maine 1 (4).JPG

Josh thought he found the longest bean.

Maine 1 (5).JPG

Elizabeth challenged its size with a bean from her bucket.

Maine 1 (6).JPG

Josiah entered the contest.

Maine 1 (7).JPG

Turns out they were all about the same size.

Maine 1 (8).JPG

Then we went inside – by the coat and hat rack…

Maine 1 (9).JPG

…to join Cerwin…

Maine 1 (10).JPG

…and snap the beans.

Maine 1 (11).JPG

Diane canned seven jars.

Maine 1 (12).JPG

Abigail made a delicious banana/blueberry casserole for Tuesday’s breakfast.

Maine 1 (13).JPG

This turned out to be a delicious use for some of the banana bread that Diane got at the foodbank.

Banana bread, blueberries, cream cheese, milk, and eggs.

Lydia and Nathan

After picking beans these four challenged each other to a race with the Nintendo GameCube our guys took along.

After the beans and blueberries were finished, Josiah invited me to visit his “second home” out back.

A Monarch at the Office

Yesterday, I took time to go to TFC’s International Office for a luncheon farewell for Brandi (I will post pictures from East St Louis) and noticed this beautiful Monarch in wildflowers surrounding the parking lot.

DSC_0012.JPG

I am anxious to see my caterpillars turn into one of these beautiful creatures.

DSC_0009.JPG

Notice the distinct black markings (like dots) on its bottom wings on either side of its body.  That tells me this one is a male.

The Caterpillars Tonight

I am preparing the aquarium to be in the house alone – again.  This time we are going to East St Louis for the dedication service of the chapel we took there in July.

DSC_0030.JPG

Max has been spinning a silk pad all day in preparation for pupation.

DSC_0033.JPG

He went into a J formation about an hour ago.

DSC_0035.JPG

This is what the bottom of the screen looks this evening.  Left to Right:  Max in J formation.  Michael in chrysalis (pupa) stage.  Molly spinning her silk pad.  There are eight to ten in various stages of being a caterpillar.

(UPDATE:  Molly went into a J formation about an hour after Max.)

Max is on the Screen

DSC_0074.JPG

Yesterday after work, I noticed that Max was making a “home” on the screen of the aquarium.

DSC_0069.JPG

He is still in the same position this morning, so I will check on him periodically – to log the day and time he goes into a J position.

~~~
UPDATE
Molly just crawled unto the screen – at 8:30 AM.  How do they know when to do that?  It is amazing!
 Now I can check on both of them.
Caterpillar Update
Michael went from a J position to a chrysalis overnight – so I missed the process.
Michael – last night when I went to bed…
…and this morning.
Max and Molly grew into full-sized caterpillars while we were gone.
The tiny newborn ones are now teenagers.
Everyone made a mess.  Consequently I must clean the aquarium and get fresh milkweed this morning.
We are home again, but I am too tired to deal with pictures tonight.
The caterpillars are much larger, and Michael is attached to the screen in a J form, so I expect he will soon turn into a chrysalis.
Pictures of our trip and the caterpillars in the next few days.
Drivin’ to Maine
The way we filled our Sunday with memories.
Maine
Three Grandsons ~ Josh, Hezekiah, and Nathan
They promptly went into “relax mode” after beginning our trip at 4:45 AM.
Maine (1)
Then it was time to watch a video.  The photo is from Hezekiah’s view in the back seat.
Maine (2)
Josh, Hezekiah, Nathan at a rest stop.
Maine (3)
Preparing their Sunday morning “sermons”.
I gave each one a magazine and asked them to prepare a one-minute message on a photo or something they found in the magazine.
Hezekiah (back seat) had La Vie Claire and recited John 3:16 to go along with a pretty scenery picture.
Josh (left) had Real Simple and told us about God’s love for us – going along with a photo and book promotion.
Nathan (right) used Hallmark  and expounded on a photo that advertised makeup, saying that we are each special to God and should be content with how He made us.
Then we talked about future dreams and plans – and what they hope to be doing when they are their parent’s age.
Maine (4)
Playing a hunting game.
Maine (5)
This milkweed plant at a rest stop made me miss the caterpillars and wonder how they are doing.
Maine (6)
Serious travelers in Massachusetts.
The bridge into Maine.
Josiah, Josh, Hezekiah, and Nathan swimming.
Suppertime:  Mark is home from taking students to Bowdoin College.
Maine (10)
Completing his log.
Hezekiah was glad to see his dad for the first time since the end of May.
Saturday ~ The Buck
We had a great day at the Truck Show/Fund-raiser for Children’s Miracle Network.
“The Buck” is known for truck shows and tractor and truck pulls.
Saturday
My view from the passenger seat as Cerwin positioned the chapel on Saturday morning.
Saturday (2)
Cerwin is training Jake Wise (new TFC staff chaplain) to take this promotional chapel to events, churches, etc.
This was the scene on the back.
Caterpillar Challenge
We are going to be away from the caterpillars for a few days, so I prepared the aquarium vases with clean water and a few fresh milkweed leaves.
DSC_0113.JPG
Michael is the only caterpillar in view on this photo, but when I checked the new leaves there were several eggs and two tiny caterpillars, I have the possibility of about a dozen butterflies…
Michael, Max & Molly, Munch, M & M, a brand new baby this morning, the two new ones on the fresh leaves, and three or four eggs.  I am not naming the new ones until we get back from Maine.
