Sweet Duty Tonight

I’m babysitting baby Jesse while his family goes to the farm show, and grandpa works late at the TFC Shop ~ where carpet is being installed in the chapel that is under construction for Quebec.

A Full Sunday

We were up early this morning to provide the worship service for two nearby churches who share the same pastor – Falmouth United Methodist, Falmouth, PA, and Ludwig United Methodist, Bainbridge, PA .

 TFC staff friends, Howard and Angie Moses, joined us in presenting the TFC ministry to these wonderful neighbors.

DSC_0003.JPG

We were only able to take the promotional chapel to the church at Bainbridge.  Cerwin thought the rig was too large for the parking lot at Falmouth.

DSC_0006.JPG

Even though the people from these churches live only a short distance from TFC’s International Office, and drive by it many times, they had no idea what we did.  They were amazed at the extent of our ministry to truck drivers and that these chapels are built locally.  We made several good contacts, and hopefully found some volunteers for the office staff.

DSC_0013.JPG

I followed in our CRV since we needed a vehicle to get from one church to the other.

DSC_0015.JPG

One of the really nice things about visiting a neighboring church is that we were soon back at the International Office…

DSC_0019.JPG

…and backing the chapel into its designated parking place.

~~~
After getting home, we went to the pavilion in our back yard to visit my stepmother’s family.  It’s always good to spend time with them.
The Evening
DSC_0036.JPG
We enjoyed a wonderful concert by our church’s youth group and advisors.  Imagine these songs in beautiful, acapella harmony: The Love of God ~ How Deep the Father’s Love for Us ~ Living by Faith ~ Take My Hand and Lead Me, Father ~ Sweeter As the Years Go By, plus many others.
DSC_0045.JPG
In the middle of the program, they did a cute skit for the children ~  how a bear taught the raccoons, beavers, and porcupine a lesson in playing together.
Another Sunday has come to a close.
The Yard
Our Saturday Project
DSC_0011.JPG
Waiting out a rain shower.
Our youngest son, Jere, was here before daylight so he and Cerwin could enjoy a cup of coffee before treating the yard with fertilizer and weed killer.  Then, just as they were ready to start, we had a short rain shower.
DSC_0020.JPG
Jere’s tractor and sprayer made short work of treating our acre of grass.
Heading home
DSC_0025.JPG
There are lots of things to do outside today – the bird feeders are empty and our flower beds need attention.
Some things I saw while working in our flower beds.
A spider web – still wet from the rain shower.
A Monarch!  I think she was one of mine ~ because I almost got her to land in my hand.
DSC_0096.JPG
I have no clue what kind of bug this is.  He and a walking stick were in the same area, but the walking stick was faster than my camera.
DSC_0097.JPG
By evening ~ The birds are happy, the yard and pavilion are ready for guests tomorrow, garden tea is brewing ~ and I’m tired.
However, I couldn’t sit down and relax before capturing a picture of the beautiful sunset.
A Quiet Day
A wonderful change to my recent weeks.
Today.JPG
I woke up early, enjoyed a cup of coffee and the quiet of my office before the official start to my workday.  At daylight, our valley was blanketed in fog ~ which gave an aura of peace.
Today (1).JPG
An hour later the sun had moved in ~ quietly and without fanfare.
Today (2).JPG
I just had to take a barefooted walk in our yard and smell the newly-mown alfalfa in the neighboring field.
DSC_0079.JPG
Then it was time to work.
I spent most of the day ~ sitting in this chair ~ adding information to my database and fine-tuning a director’s newsletter, following my proof readers’ observations.
Our daughter-in-law, Kristen, needed our van today, because their Suburban was in the garage.  After supper, Cerwin asked when I wanted to drive to their house to get the van.  I said, “My body needs the one-mile walk.  I have been sitting too much today.”
Today (3).JPG
The evening sun created a beautiful silhouette of a neighbors farm.
Today (4).JPG
Today (5).JPG
Kristen was making grape juice ~ by a steaming process.
Today (6).JPG
Today (7).JPG
She asked if I wanted to take a jar along home.  Guess what I will be drinking for breakfast tomorrow?
Today (8).JPG
It surely was a wonderful day.
Pedicure ~ Manicure!
DSC_0006.JPG
The fact that I took granddaughter Jenna here a few months ago was not lost on Abigail and Jana.  They have been gently “begging” to go to Aunt Debi’s manicurist/pedicurist ever since that day.  Yesterday was the day!
Just looking at these pictures makes my feet feel good!
It felt good to have our feet and hands pampered ~ but the best thing was being together for an hour and a half.  (Deb lives an hour away from us.)
Youth Group Concert
After a drive-through, McDonald’s supper, we went to the retirement community where Cerwin’s mother lives.
DSC_0049.JPG
We were early because Abigail was singing with the youth group, so I finished my McDonald’s coffee while visiting with Mother.
DSC_0051.JPG
I was blessed by the fabulous singing of our church’s youth group.  (Abigail is in the second row, second from the right.)  This is about half of our youth group.  Our church is blessed to have so many young people who are serious about serving the Lord.
This concert made me not want to miss their concert at church on Sunday evening.  I want to hear some of those songs again.
Monarch Presentation
Today
DSC_0143.JPG
Someone from this home school group found out about my Monarch project, and asked if I would show my pictures at their co-op meeting today.  The children were attentive and full of questions.
Wed & Thur (14).JPG
It was fun looking through the photos and remembering my thirteen caterpillars and butterflies.
The Weekend
Saturday Morning Prayer Breakfast
sa.JPG
Cerwin and I enjoyed breakfast with ministry friends.
sa (1).JPG
It was especially fun to take Cerwin’s mother along – as a special treat on her 90th birthday.  Since our granddaughter, Jenna, was at our place overnight, she was also along.
sa (2).JPG
Volunteer Chaplain David challenged us to live and speak truth.
If we walk in the light, as he is in the light,
we have fellowship with one another
and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
(1 John 1:7 NIV)
Saturday Morning
sa (4).JPG
We were invited to take the mobile chapel to Bethel Assembly of God, Carlisle, PA.
sa (3).JPG
Cerwin had lots of willing helpers in setting up the steps.
sa (5).JPG
Immediately after the morning service many of the youth helped set up for their afternoon “Parking Lot Fair.”
sa (7).JPG
A popular lunch item was chicken corn soup.
sa (8).JPG
Yum!
 sa (9).JPG
We had lots of visitors on the chapel, but none quite as colorful as the Red Bird.  Chaplain David (left), from Harrisburg Chapel, joined us for the afternoon.
sa (10).JPG
This young guy saw my camera and asked me to take his picture.
sa (11).JPG
We had visitors most of the afternoon.
sa (12).JPG
The sun was setting by the time we pulled into the International Office.
