Today

DSC_0001

First there was a beautiful sunrise.

DSC_0002

It seemed to cover the entire sky. Everywhere I looked there was orange and yellow and purple and blue.

~~~
Then I spent the day in my basement office – preparing staff newsletters for tomorrow’s mail. I’m tired (exhausted to be exact), but there are three bulk mailings ready for the post office.
Just before i finished the last one, I heard someone calling my name – checking to see if I was in the office or resting in the living room.
It was my Aunt Julia carrying this delicious looking fruit basket.
How nice is that – a get well fruit basket.
No wonder I am getting well so quickly. I have so many wonderful friends and family.
Red-bellied Woodpecker
DSC_0027
I was delighted to see a male Red-bellied Woodpecker today. I see them now and then, but they are not a regular at our feeders.
DSC_0026
I know it’s a male because his head and nape are red. The female has a break of grey on its head.
DSC_0024
They are fairly large for birds at our feeders – about nine inches when fullgrown.
A Beautiful Afternoon
I felt a need to get outside and see what was going on in our woodlot.
DSC_0002
 There is still some pink Yarrow.
DSC_0004
The fire bush is red – but not as brilliant as a few weeks ago.
DSC_0005
Most branches are bare with just a few leaves hanging on for dear life.
DSC_0017
There are leaves on the oak trees but they’re brown and tattered.
DSC_0007
This happens every fall.
The decorative grass looks so pretty in the late afternoon sunlight.
The chickadee didn’t even fly away as I approached the patio.
The nuthatch seemed to be telling me that a squirrel knocked the feeder off the stool again!
~~~

I was blessed this evening to have a visit from our friends Marv and Sue Shenk. Marv is a minister at our church.

Overheard In An Orchard

DSC_0005

Said the robin to the sparrow,
“I would really like to know
Why those anxious human beings
rush around and worry so.”

11-10 (7)

Said the sparrow to the robin,
“Friend, I think that it must be
That they have no Heavenly Father
such as cares for you and me.”

Elizabeth Chaney, Overheard In An Orchard, 1859

The Boys Are Back in Town!

Photos by Cerwin

1 (4a)

After enjoying a five-day hunt here in Kentucky, Jordan, Jeff, Nate, and Cerwin are home – for a day – before they leave for another hunting excursion here in West Virginia.

1 (1)

This was their first hunting trip to Kentucky – and they came home with great stories of the lodge, hunting, and other hunters and their stories.

The door on the far end of their bedroom entered the hallway to the main lodge.

1 (4)

There was also an exterior door to each room.

1 (5)

The main part of the lodge was quite large and comfortable.

They enjoyed visiting with the other five hunters and hearing their stories. Two of the hunters brought their wives.

Jordan and the lodge dog.

The guys enjoyed getting the dog “going” when there were deer on TV.

Scenery from Cerwin’s tree stand.

3

Cerwin enjoyed watching two turkeys scratching and eating in front of him when he was in a ground blind one day.

The tree stand Cerwin that was in when he shot his nine-point.

It sure sounds like they had lots of fun.

There were nine hunters and seven deer. Jordan and Nate were the only two that did not bring a deer home – but they seemed to have a great time anyway, and are ready to begin another hunt on Monday.
