Shopping With the Girls

DSC_0004.JPG

This was my view of them most of the day!

First it was a quick stop at Five Below – then it was on to the Mall where they shopped, while I waited on a chair or bench outside each store.  Being their chauffeur wasn’t a bad deal.  They walked, shopped, and worried over what to buy, while I relaxed – editing photos on my laptop.

I am working on putting all my Germany and Switzerland photos on a DVD for everyone who was on the trip.  I have condensed 5,000 photos to 1,000, and think I will have to delete a few more so they fit on one DVD.

Today

8-17.JPG

I traveled the one-and-a-quarter-mile trip down our pretty, country road to the post office – something I do almost every weekday.

 A view from our local village.

After getting home, I worked on some photo-editing…

8-17 (4).JPG

…then closed the office at 4:30 p.m., and went to Jeff and Chris’ house to pick up granddaughter Jenna and her friend.  While waiting in our van, I enjoyed watching the evening sun play with the water as Jordan washed his car.

This is one of Jenna’s seven, “2008 Days.”

Several weeks ago, she asked if she could use one of her “days” to bring a friend – and if I would take them shopping.

Go here to see what I mean by one of “Jenna’s Days.”

I had a 5:30 appointment at Dish it Up this evening, so asked if they wanted to go along.  They loved it,  I told Cerwin it was much more fun having them along than going by myself.

We received twelve meals from this business as a gift from our children last Christmas.  Tonight I prepared the final six meals.

8-17 (6).JPG

 This was the first meal we prepared for our freezer.

8-17 (7).JPG

One Meal at Dish It Up serves six, so I had the girls each prepare a small container – that serves three – rather than one large container.

8-17 (8).JPG

 They thought this was great fun, saying they felt like professional cooks.

8-17 (10).JPG

 The second meal was Pesto Tortellini.

8-17 (12).JPG

 This is the only meal that I did not divide, it is better when cooked in one pot – then divided if desired.

8-17 (13).JPG

8-17 (14).JPG

 The girls put a finishing wrap to this soup that will one day be cooked in my crockpot.  The contents were placed in large baggies, then wrapped to freeze as one container.

8-17 (15).JPG

 The girls were anxious for the Philly Steak Roll Up station to open – it was busy here tonight – because they thought it looked like fun to prepare.

 Brushing oil on the pastry.

8-17 (18).JPG

 Adding the first layer – roast beef.

8-17 (19).JPG

After adding cheese and stir-fry vegetables, they shaped each one into a wrap – then pinched the edges shut.

 I am anxious to taste this proscuitto-wrapped chicken.

 They were almost sad to reach the final station – Crunchy Country Chicken.

 Putting a baggie of corn flakes and slivered almonds on top, before closing with a lid.

Twelve meals ready for my freezer.

It appears that we will also have venison for our freezer.

While driving home, from Dish It Up, I received a phone call from Cerwin, saying he had just gotten a young buck with his bow and arrow.  It is his first archery success since getting started in this activity a few years ago.

Morning Dew

&

A Free Supper

Wed.JPG

 This morning I decided to enjoy a walk through the leaves in our yard before going to the office.  I was a bit surprised that there was so much dew.

Wed (1).JPG

Morning dew is so beautiful.

Wed (4).JPG

It felt good on my bare feet.

~~~
During the day I worked on a newsletter, filed some things that were on my desk, corrected some returned addresses in my database, and at the end of the day finalized a PowerPoint for my Aunt and Uncle’s Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary celebration next week.
~~~

It was fun to enjoy a supper that was entirely free.

Wed (5).JPG

 My aunt brought fresh corn from their garden…

Wed (6).JPG

 …as well as yams…

Wed (8).JPG

 …and turnips.

Maybe you wouldn’t think turnips are a great gift – but these are delicious raw, with a bit of salt or salad dressing.

Wed (7).JPG

 Cerwin brought the french bread home from the office.  It was left over from lunch.  The staff made lunch for those in the office, including those going through training.

Wed (9).JPG

 The applesauce was “fresh made” by our daughter-in-law, Chris.

(By the way Chris, it is delicious.  Thanks.)

Wed (10).JPG

 The chocolate cake was also leftover from the office.

I love a free meal!

TFC Candidate Training School

We call it CTS.

Tuesday (3).JPG

 There are five people in this training session, which began yesterday and will close at the end of the day tomorrow.  I was asked to give my Communications input at 3:45 this afternoon.

Tuesday.JPG

 Marianne and Joe Matthews are in training to serve on the chapel in Brunswick, Georgia.

Tuesday (1).JPG

 Tony and Rose Pierzchala will serve on the chapel in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Tuesday (2).JPG

 David Smith’s location for service is the Buffalo, New York, chapel.  You will remember that I took this photo on Saturday night.

Tuesday (4).JPG

 By the time I was finished with my one-hour session, I could smell dinner cooking – pasta, sauce, sausage, bread, and a salad.

Tuesday (5).JPG

TFC Director of Chaplains, Bunny O’Hare, was the chef, and President and CEO, Scott Weidner, served us.

Tuesday (9).JPG

Tables were set up in the shipping room.  Cerwin had already gone home, and missed this meal.  Bunny called him, but he was too close to home.  Cerwin encouraged me to stay, saying he would buy a sandwich at our local grocery store.

Tuesday (10).JPG

 During my half-hour drive home, I kept getting a glimpse of the sunset in my rear view mirror.

Tuesday (11).JPG

 I tried taking a photo in the driver’s side rear view mirror.  It’s not perfect, but you get an idea of the beauty I was seeing.

It was a rewarding day!
