York Chapter Dinner Concert

We enjoyed attending the York Chapter Dinner Concert on Saturday evening.

It was great to meet old friends who we only see here once a year – and become acquainted with new ones.

Cerwin’s mother (left), my stepmother (second from left), and her sister Millie (third from left) enjoy going with us to this banquet.

Early in their career – when they were discussing what to call the group – they drove across Goose Creek in Arkansas, and the name stuck.

These guys gave us a great mix of bluegrass and gospel music.

Thanking the cooks at Friendship Fire Hall.

They told us this is the last meal they will be cooking for us, as they are retiring at the end of the year. That means the chapter leadership will have to look for a new place.

Bunny O’Hare (speaking) and Cerwin shared a ministry update.

Light Troughs for the Chapel

1 (8).JPG

After a relaxing Sunday, Cerwin went back to the TFC shop on Monday, and spent most of the morning cleaning up and organizing things that had accumulated in the room after three-and-a-half-months of chapel construction.

When cleanup was finished, he began work on light troughs for the chapel.

Cerwin designs these to create indirect lighting in the chapel area.

Mailing the Highway News

Cerwin stays home from the shop on the day we mail the individual issues of the Highway News and helps me with preparing the 2,864 magazines for labeling

I didn’t remember to take pictures today, but we were grateful for the help of John, Arlene, Julia, and Theda.

After taking the thirteen tubs of mail to the post office, Cerwin checked on the progress of the chapel in the paint shop. They are expecting to have it painted by the end of next week.

Saturday Morning, April 17

A group of young adults blessed TFC by securing a load of donated mulch and spreading it on the flowerbeds at the International Office on Saturday morning.

Great Job!

It would have taken Cerwin several days to accomplish what they did in a morning.

When TFC President Scott Weidner arrived this morning (Monday), he said, “I think we have the best looking business on Route 441 between Harrisburg and Columbia.”

Thanks everyone! You were a blessing to TFC.

Chapel Construction Update

4-12-10 Cabinets (2).JPG

I thought it was time to give you (especially Transport For Christ staff) an update on the Indianapolis chapel construction.

4-12-10 Cabinets (3).JPG

Early last week the guys installed the cabinets. Cerwin picked up the Formica countertop on Friday, which will be installed on the living quarters cabinets in the foreground and in the chapel countertop in the background.

4-15-10.JPG

On Thursday Cerwin pulled the chapel out of the shop to begin the exterior work. From here he took it to the sandblaster, then a few hours later to the paint shop – where it will remain for bodywork and painting. This business offered to do the work free-of-charge, so will fit it in between some of his other work. It may be there for a week or two.

In the meantime, Cerwin will build a bed, stain the trim, and build indirect lighting troughs.

If things continue to go well, we will be able to deliver this to Indianapolis in May.

Time With Jesse

…while Jared went for his kindergarten test

Wednesday, April 14

1.JPG

Jere and Kristen were so wise in not sending Jared to kindergarten last year – he was a bit young and didn’t want to go, but is quite ready to go to school this fall.

2.JPG

After they left, Jesse could hardly wait to go to my office to play a computer game. I still have an old computer with Windows 95. It is perfect for little boy games.

3.JPG

Today he learned to use a computerized hammer, screwdriver, and drill. I didn’t think of taking a picture while he was working in the “computer workshop.” I taught him how to use the mouse, and at first he said, “Too hard, too hard.”  (So far he has only played games that use computer keys.)

I worked with him by moving his hand, and by the time his mom and Jared came back, he had mastered drilling holes (where circles surround the + signs) and inserting screws. He also learned to hammer nails into the wood where the + signs are marked. It took him awhile, but he was pleased to show Kristen and Jared that he could do it by himself.

4.JPG

Then they were on their way (each with a bag of gummies) to visit their other grandma who had recently fallen and broken her hip.

The old life is a grass life, its beauty as short-lived as wildflowers; Grass dries up, flowers droop, God’s Word goes on and on forever.
