The Past Few Days

This entry is about a variety of things and critters I have seen in the past few days. Pretty sunrise Male cardinal Sunday rain Male ring-necked pheasant If I hadn’t seen him walking across our yard, I probably would have missed him in the woods because his coloring fit in with his surroundings. A pair of […]

Our Crocus Are Finally Blooming

| Nature

I am used to seeing crocus flowers by March 16 (the anniversary of the death of my mother), but this year they are about two weeks late ~ for the first time in 40 years. Then when they were about to bloom over the weekend, we had snow again. Some that were ready to open were battered […]

It’s Snowing Again!

Tuesday, March 25 Just about the time we think spring has arrived, it snows again. I don’t think he was quite ready for that gust of wind. A bit of snow does give me opportunity for some creative pictures ~ and I love any photo-op. 🙂

Beauty In The Evening

| Nature

I have seen seventy years worth of sunsets ~ and never tire of this end-of-day beauty. My interest in a sunset usually begins with the first pink glow in the evening sky. On this particular evening ~ when I went to photograph the evening sky ~ about a week ago, I noticed that one of our trees […]

Snow Geese Overhead

The loud honking sound caused me to look up. I knew from the media that they were at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area ~ thousands of migrating water fowl ~ Snow Geese, Tundra Swans, and Canada Geese. The news from Middle Creek (8-10 miles from us as the geese fly ) estimated that at the height of the migration (about […]

Hope & Springtime

| Nature, Thoughts

It has been an interesting week. One of those times where people and springtime have been a special blessing to me. Just seeing encouraging signs of spring has made me smile. On Sunday our Sunday school class had a luncheon after church – in the fellowship hall. I wish I had taken my camera, because the […]

Reflections

| Nature, Sky

The other morning I was drawn to the outside when I saw the yellow glow of the sunrise, but what captured my attention was the sun’s reflection on the snow. It looked like a pool of gold. That evening the sunset created more beautiful reflections on the late winter snow. I am grateful for eyes to see […]

In His Time

Photos from early March The late winter sunsets have been beautiful. Some days it feels like winter will never end, then there are days when it is warm (like today) and we notice signs of spring. Like seeing birds in pairs. Then without much warning, the next day is cold and cloudy. A pretty cardinal makes me smile ~ […]

Pictures of the ice around our house on Wednesday, February 5. This is the beauty we woke up to the other week. Of course, it always gives concern for wires and branches. Everywhere I looked there was incredible beauty – designed by ice.

Snow Birds

More pictures of the snow from Monday, February 3. By the time the snow stopped, we had about 8 inches on the ground. I felt bad for the birds, because every feeder was covered with snow. The suet was popular as it remained free of snow. Just before lunch, I decided to fill a large, […]

Monday ~ February 3 Our crepe myrtle bush shortly after 9 a.m. Notice how much heavier the snow is just over an hour later. It was so much fun to photograph this snow. It’s been a long time since we had a snow this heavy and pretty. Because everything was covered with snow, there were […]

And The Next Day It Snowed

Sunday, February 2 dawned beautiful, clear, and cold. It was one of those mornings when the sunrise seemed to fill the entire sky. No, I didn’t turn the camera upside down. Within half hour of sunrise the clouds began to overshadow the sun. After church we noticed a large flock of black birds in the […]

The First Day of February

It was a beautiful, calm day in southeastern Pennsylvania as we awaited snow (again) later in the week. I had trouble eliminating any of the sunrise pictures because of the glorious coloring. There must be salt on the pickup truck tires. This squirrel was there for several minutes licking the tire. We have juncos in abundance […]

A Cold, Windy, Beautiful Day

Monday, January 27 I could hear the wind, but how do you photograph wind. Then I saw snow blowing across the fields between the farm and our house. The wind kept the snow plows busy at keeping the roads open. This time the plow went through just in time for the school bus. “Hey, Myrtle, don’t turn […]

Billy The Blue Jay

I’m Billy, and I thought you might like to hear a bit about my life at Cerwin and Doris’ feeders. It can be difficult to find good food in wintertime – especially when everything is frozen or snow-covered. I love when Doris keeps this suet feeder full, and this last batch is especially delicious. I […]

A Walk In Our Woods

Sunday, January 26 The pavilion did not look like it was inviting us for a picnic, but somehow a walk in the woods looked inviting to me. It was a cold, gray, breezy afternoon. The cold got into my bones – even though I was dressed warmly. One bird house down. We’ll deal with that […]

A Cold Weekend

The last weekend of January – the 25th and 26th. Saturday morning’s sky was a beautiful range of colors. About an hour and a half later the same view only displayed shades of gray. Later in the afternoon the sun peeked through the clouds for a short time. “Will you feed us if it snows again?” For some […]

Pretty Day After The Snow

Wednesday, January 22 The morning sun tinted everything with a yellow glow. The goldfinches looked more yellow than they actually are at this time of year. Tuesday’s Snow – Part 2

Tuesday, January 21 Though we only received several inches of snow, it added a new beauty to our landscape. Birds that are usually pretty looked even prettier with the white background – even blue jays. Oops! My movement scared him that time. The little junco looked cold. Tufted titmouse Goldfinches fluffed their feathers to keep warm. Male […]

Tuesday’s Snow – Part 1

Tuesday, January 21 dawned gray and cold with light snow. Most schools and many businesses were closed because of the cold, and it was supposed to snow all day. Getting Ready For Snow

| Nature

Almost everything about Monday, January 20, told us that snow was coming. The only thing that was a bit deceptive was the sunrise, but the snow was still hours away. By early afternoon sunshine was a rarity. Birds were busy most of the day. Squirrels took advantage of snow-free grass to search for shellbarks and acorns. We […]

It is amazing what I will do for a photograph! Last Saturday morning, January 18, when I noticed a pretty sunrise, I decided to brave the light snow and cold weather while still barefooted and in my house coat.
