Reminders of My Childhood

When I walked outside this morning, this scene took me back to my early teen years when I enjoyed reading Harold Bell Wright books.    I loved how he described the light coming through the trees in the Ozarks. He described it so well that I could almost see it and feel it. After school […]

Visiting Great-Grandma

Tonight – after supper at McDonald’s – we took the children to visit Cerwin’s mother. Mother will be 96 on Sunday. Jana read a letter to her from Jon and Jen Stauffer (Minnesota), that I received by email. Mother loves to hear about what is happening in her grandchildren’s lives but can no longer read due to […]

Jesse – The Chef

Ian, Jana, Jared, and Jesse – ready for school this morning. This morning when I was making sure that backpacks were ready for school, I discovered a chef’s hat and apron in Jesse’s backpack. When I asked if he needed it for school, he said, “No. I thought maybe I could help you cook.” So we made […]

Favorite Moments From My Day

This morning I sent the boys out for the Sunday news paper. They were still barefoot and in their pajamas. I loved the laughter and racing. This afternoon – when I took a walk around our yard – I discovered that our tomato plant actually has a few tomatoes on it.    I am not sure […]

Cerwin and Josh went to Jeff and Chris’ to help finish the deck, which left the other five of us with an open day before us. Jana made pancakes for us. Plain or chocolate chip. The boys were delighted. After a bit of computer and TV time for the boys and Jana – and laundry […]

I Love a Rainy Day

…especially when we are at the Myers’ house in Maine.   The bluegrass organizers must have been praising the Lord that the rain waited until the festival was over. The rain was quite heavy some of the time.   It seemed like a good day to play table games. They (Diane, Hannah, and Elizabeth) started by […]

We went to church with Mark and Diane – Brunswick Church of the Brethren – before joining the Bluegrass Festival. There was a worship service on the beach, but we like to spend some time with our friends at the church in Brunswick. Mark and Diane joined us for the afternoon. They left in the early […]

Traveling to Maine

Yesterday. We had a delightful, restful drive to our family in Maine. It was still dark at 5:15 a.m. when we left the house. We were near Allentown, Pennsylvania, on I-78 when we began seeing signs of daylight. There was no sunrise to be seen on this cloudy, foggy morning. It was still cloudy and […]

Conclusion to Cousins’ Week

Making breakfast on Friday morning. What do you think Jared is dropping chocolate chips on to? You were right if you guessed pancakes. Jesse wanted to make his own. Supper was pizza from Two Cousins – appropriate for Cousins’ week 🙂 – to which the older cousins were invited. Josiah came after I took the picture. Nate […]

The field camera caught some of us looking for bugs. Jared is looking for bugs for the Eco Dome Habitat he assembled. The camera even caught me looking for ants and bugs. The critter mix area was a great place to find ants. Ian just returned from Middle School orientation with his Dad. This was Diana’s […]

After horse-riding lessons, we came home and began to prepare supper. This was Jared’s supper – and he had chosen corn-on-the-cob. He also wanted to make ham on the grill. After supper Ian and Gloria posed with their magic rocks. Then it was time to get wet with water balloons. …and the hopscotch sprinkler. …and […]

Cousins’ Days – Riding Horse

When I took Gloria to Abby’s place to ride horse, Abby asked if I wanted to bring the boys back in two hours so she and Gloria could give them rides. That made two boys – Ian and Jared – very happy. Jesse didn’t think he wanted to ride horse. Abby and Dusty (quarter horse) gave Jared rides. […]

Before supper on Tuesday, Ian and Gloria followed directions by adding a few more rocks to their magic rocks.. Supper was a doggie roast and the yellow watermelon (that Gloria was preparing in yesterday’s blog). We invited the older cousins for this meal. Josiah is the only one who could come in time for the doggie roast. Jordan and Jenna […]

Cerwin realized in the morning that he forgot to set the field camera, so there weren’t any pictures of what came to the critter mix during the night. However, there was a skunk enjoying the food when we got up – even though it was pouring rain. It had been a rainy night, so it […]

The Official Start to Cousins’ Week

These three woke up in a silly mood on Monday morning. However, that is nothing new. They could hardly wait to pick up their cousins Diana and Gloria and go to A.C. Moore for crafts. We were hungry by the time we finished shopping, so stopped at McDonald’s for lunch. When we finished eating, we went to the grocery store […]

I’m not sure when we began having all the Pennsylvania (and sometimes one or two Maine) grandchildren here for three to five days during the summer. The Maine grandchildren got to join the “party” when they were twelve and spent the summer here. I know that some of the older ones were fairly young. Now we are […]

Sunday was a beautiful evening at our pavilion when the Hawthorne family came for our annual picnic. Lunch With Roy & Deb

We had reservations at Lily’s for supper on Friday – with Roy and Deb – for his birthday which was July 7 – but when they came to Joanne’s funeral (10:30 a.m.), we changed the reservations to lunch. My husband, Cerwin, and I have four children, seventeen grandchildren (2 are in Heaven), and 19 great grandchildren. Cerwin spent 40 years as a truck driver for Ferrellgas. We are both retired from serving with Transport For Christ - a ministry to truck drivers - and love our life in rural Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
