Monday, October 27 in Maine

Monday is one of the days that Mark has off during his weeklong schedule with driving truck for First Fleet. (Friday is the other day off.)

Mark and Diane are both into making crafts and are getting ready for a craft show in a few weeks. I asked if I could take some “show and tell” pictures of the things they are making.

Diane has and is making several lap comforters. A few even have pockets for keeping your hands warm.

She makes nice bags for groceries, etc.

These pads are cloth on one side and grippy material on the other side for opening bottles and jars.

She has lots of small Kleenex holders and made a few more while I was taking pictures.

A stash of finished Kleenex holders with Kleenex inside.

Ironing material for hot pads.

Finished, quilted hot pads. If I remember correctly, they have heat-resistant material inside.

A quilt top

Preparing to make a few more bags. In these pictures she was making sure she cut the material correctly so none of the rabbits would end up being upside down.

Putting a variety of patterns together for another project.

Next are photos of Mark making a small rope bowl that will hold his cell phone while being charged.

Rope can come in a variety of lengths. It can be bought in a very small pack, a small spool, or a very large spool.

Mark showed me the beginning of the cell phone basket.

After a few rounds on the sewing machine, it began to take shape. The light and shadows made the photos look a bit strange at times. The rope color is an off white.

As it got larger, he began shaping it by lifting the basket instead of sewing it flat.

Beginning to mark the opening for the cell phone cord.

Tying a knot as he prepares to finish it.

Trimming a few threads

More stitching.

Finished. Notice the slit for the cord – on the right.

This is a finished one they have been using in the kitchen. Mark wanted one that was a bit smaller to place on the lamp stand next to his recliner, thus he made the new one smaller.

Some completed baskets for the craft show.

He gave me a square one I wanted for an 8 x 8 casserole dish. Diane added one of her quilted hot pads.

As we prepared to go out for lunch and an evening drive, I noticed the pretty scenery outside their living room patio door.

Our first stop was Chick-a-Dee Restaurant, Lewiston, Maine. A favorite of mine because they serve lobster.

This time I ordered a lobster pie. It was delicious! It contained baked lobster with lots of butter and buttered saltine crackers. Cerwin got a hamburger, Mark enjoyed a seafood Reuben sandwich, and Diane had chicken salad in a roll.

From Lewiston, we headed north to Madison Maine, where we stopped at a quilt and craft shop that Mark and Diane have wanted to visit – especially during the New England Shop Hop contest.

We enjoyed some pretty scenery along the way.

We enjoyed meeting the friendly owner and seeing all the sewing machines, materials, and crafts. Sewing machines are no small purchase. At one point Cerwin said, “We could trade our car in for this one”.

Mark liked that she carried a lot of rope with a variety of books and patterns. He will never run out of making new-style bowls and baskets.

After that fun stop we traveled further north, hoping to see a moose.

We traveled over areas that looked like moose lived there, but we only saw deer – probably about ten.

Thank you, Mark, for going beyond the call of duty in taking us through moose country.

I enjoyed the interesting woodland areas and homes.
