My Mother’s Day Weekend

I always have mixed feelings when Mother’s Day arrives. It’s a time when I am aware of my weaknesses as a person and as a mother and a time when it is fun having our children honor me in various ways.

The weekend began with a pretty impatient from Jeff. He always comes early on Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend. I loved that he stayed and visited for a while.

On Saturday evening Roy and Deb took us to Rooster Street Restaurant in nearby Lititz.

Cerwin and Deb had Steaks.

Roy and I had a chicken meal that included asparagus, spinach, Quiana and tomatoes. The chef knows how to make delicious meals.

Just after Cerwin took this picture, a lady sitting next to us asked about taking a picture that included Cerwin.

We each enjoyed our dessert choice of cookies and ice cream.

Following worship services on Sunday morning, Cerwin took me to the early seating for Hearth and Harrow’s Mother’s Day buffet. A staff person took this picture of us standing next to their plant wall. Hearth and Harrow is a public restaurant at Pleasant View Retirement Communities very close to our church. We like it there because it is quiet and relaxing – unlike most restaurants on Mother’s Day.

The buffet line began with mashed potatoes and rice pilaf.

Next was corn, asparagus and cod. I didn’t get a photo of the steak which was right after the cod. It was sliced by the chef according to each person’s desire of rare to well done.

There was also an area where brunch was being served.

My delicious choices.

There was a dessert table and another one with coffee, water, and lemonade. In another area there was a choice of sodas.

I chose cheesecake with raspberry drizzle. Cerwin chose carrot cake. We enjoyed coffee and dessert while relaxing in the delightful atmosphere.

By the time we got home from Hearth and Harrow, there was an accumulation of things to put on our counter. Flowers, face masks, a card, chocolate covered strawberries, and lasagna that only needed to be prepared by microwave. I also received messages, phone calls and a cute Mother’s Day singing video.

Jeff, Diane, Jere and Deb, you are the best kids a mother ever had.

I also received several neat messages and notes from in-loves and grandchildren.
