It was a beautiful morning as we drove toward the Ole Hickory area of Lancaster during sunrise.
George, Marv (we call him Tex), Ronnie, Marv, Cerwin, Gene, Betty (Gene’s wife), Eloise (Marv’s wife).
When Cerwin writes “Mountain Raiders” on the calendar, I know we will be having breakfast with some of his old hunting friends. Mountain Raiders was the name of the group of guys who hunted from a cabin in Potter County, PA. Cerwin began hunting with them when he was 16. Many have passed on, but these guys and their wives still get together every few months to reminisce. Glenn and Phoebe were missing because he wasn’t feeling well.
The women sit at one end of the table so we can talk about things that interest us while the guys talk hunting memories, their health, and whatever is going on in their lives. I especially enjoyed sitting next to George this time. I don’t know him very well, so it was great to learn more about his interests. He is learning to paint – I think he said acrylics. One of his first projects was a pumpkin. He and his wife live at Brethren Village where he said there are many opportunities to explore hobbies and interests.
PS: Can you tell that I am well on my way to healing from my hospital stay from pneumonia? Sometimes an outing like this wears me out and I am glad to go home and sit in my La-Z-Boy for a few hours. Yesterday in church, when we stood to sing a four-verse song, recite Psalm 23, and continued standing for prayer, I had to sit down after the song because I am not yet strong enough to stand that long. Today I was able to shop at Blessings of Hope store in Lancaster, then go to Costco where we walked again. Walking seems to go better that standing still.
