The other day – when it was warm and sunny – I decided to venture out to the end of our driveway and check on the soybean field across the road.
The field is now yellow with the maturing crop. Many fields in our area are already brown with drying beans. This field was planted late, but I am sure it will still grow to maturity.
You may remember that this is what the field looked like on August 13 – still young and green.
That is when the beans were still flowers.
By August 24, you could distinguish the beginning of the bean by its fuzzy shape.
By this week you can easily see the maturing bean.
I pulled one off the stalk to show you the shape of the shell and the distinct shape of the beans inside.
As you can tell, the development of field crops fascinates me. You can take the girl off the farm, but you cannot take the farm from the girl. 🙂
