Campobello was a short drive from Lubec, Maine, into Canada. From Maine, you travel the Franklin Delno Bridge, which is just over 1/2 mile long. If you go to Campobello from Canada, you need to travel by ferry.

We saw a few salmon farms as we approached our breakfast location.

The Porch was an interesting, comfortable restaurant with delicious food.

From there we drove to the top of the island to see the Head Harbor Lighthouse and the marine life in the area.

There were a variety of boats, including whale-watching boats.

There was a fairly large viewing area. Sometimes we heard that someone saw a whale, porpoise or harbor sea. Cerwin and I were never at the right spot, but neither of the creatures spend much time above the water. Mark and Diane saw some of each.

We spent more time on the other side of the lighthouse where a local lobsterman told us he comes here every day. He had seen a whale a bit earlier and could point out fish, whale, and harbor seal activity because he knew the sea so well. He thought there might be 10 whales here during the late summer. Minke whales are the most common.

I enjoy watching cormorants flying just above the water.

According to my first lighthouse photo and this one, we spent almost two hours here. It was fun and interesting. I enjoyed the beautiful view and weather from my lawn chair.

My next post will be about the area where the President Franklin D Roosevelt family made their summer home.
