If you follow my blog, you will remember Saturday, August 3 when a tree fell on our house during a fierce storm.
We are grateful the damage wasn’t worse, but it still took time to get everything back to normal.
There were calls to Rohrer Bros (house repair), All Season Tree Service (tree removal), Mountainside Excavators (stump removal and lawn roller, and of course our insurance company.
Rohrer Bros. were here early on Monday (Aug 5) to explore and remove damaged items.
Dustin spent the morning working on repairs. It was a week where it was too hot to be on a roof in the afternoon.
I was surprised at all the damaged roofing and spouting materials.
This is what it looked like at the end of the morning on Monday.
By noon on Tuesday, the roof was looking good. He also replaced the slate on top of the chimney which was broken when the tree fell. We found small pieces of slate in various places of our patio flower beds.
On Tuesday morning (Aug 6) All Season Tree Service made a quick removal of the tree trunk and its branches.
A few hours later Mountainside Excavators brought two pieces of equipment to roll the lawn (ruts from the big equipment on Saturday following the rain) and remove the tree roots.
Their business is so close, that they just drove the equipment here without putting them on a truck. They said it would have taken longer to load, tie down, unload, then reload, tie down, and unload again. ๐
It’s amazing how quickly the right equipment can do the necessary work.
They also brought topsoil so Cerwin already has new grass planted with straw for moisture.
I smiled when Cerwin told me where he got the straw. Earlier this year, following the harvest of wheat across the road, it became very windy and lots of the straw ended up in our yard. He raked some of it up and kept it in a bag in the shed – just in case – he needed it for something. ๐ He is so economical and wise.
The finishing touches were put on the house this morning when Eagle Building Solutions installed new spouting.
Our spouting hasn’t looked so nice for a few years, as there were dents from other smaller tree branches or from delivery trucks. ๐
Now all we have left to do is clean up the flowerbeds on the patio. There are small sticks and leaves everywhere. Then we will put the birdfeeders back where they belong.
Also, as we processed the many phases of cleanup, we discovered that our red bud tree was damaged in the storm and is leaning toward the north. We could probably push it over. All Season Tree Service is coming back to remove it and another tree on the other side of the house. Most of our trees were already many years old when we built our house in 1967, so we have to be cautious of declining trees – especially if they are close to the house.
A lot of work and organising. And well done. I hope this will not happen again.

Yes, we will be happy if it never happens again.
My goodness, that was done quickly, and the house looks like new again. Spouting is a new word to me — is that like what we call gutters?
Spouting catches the rain then takes it away from the house. Is that what you call gutters?
