It has been fun to see a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker at our feeders recently.
Each of these is a female, because the male has a red throat.
I especially enjoyed watching it share a feeder with a pair of bluebirds. This is a big feeder on a bench close to the ground where I dump old birdseed when refilling the other feeders with suet and black oil sunflower seeds.
So that’s what a yellow-bellied sapsucker looks like! I always wondered. Isaac’s used to have a sandwich by that name (all their stuff had bird names) and it was my favorite.
