At White Oak Church
Friday Evening, November 17
~~~
I went to church early to get a few photos of the layout and enjoyed listening to Crystal share how she and Dwight became passionate about this project. If I remember correctly, she said they have been doing this for about twenty years.
She gets ideas and guidelines from Samaritan’s Purse – where the filled shoeboxes will be shipped.
This sign gave people the information of what must be in each shoebox.
These stickers were applied to each shoebox so those who distribute them – all around the world – will know which age child should receive it and whether the contents are for a boy or a girl.
There were also note cards where the adults and children could sign their name and add a note if they wish.
By 7 pm the fellowship was full of parents, young people and children who helped pack about 500 shoeboxes. Most were from White Oak Church, but there were several who came from neighboring churches because they believe in this project.
This table had lots of deflated soccer balls and pumps.
Many teenagers and adults assisted the young children with their choices.
After a while, I asked some of the children to show me what they had placed in their box.
This is where finished boxes were examined and closed with rubber bands.
Wilmer carried the boxes to the vehicles that were being filled with boxes.
Dwight packed them tightly in his vehicle.
As I walked toward our car, it was fun to look in through the windows and see the project being continued until each box was filled.
Samaritan’s Purse will appreciate these boxes which will be distributed to needy families and children at Christmas and other times of the year.
