We gathered at Jakey and Crystal’s (daughter) house about 12:30 pm to surprise Elvin and Patti when they arrived – about 1 pm.
We arrived early, so I had time to check out the refurbished corn bin Jakey installed near their pool. After finding it and checking with the owner, who donated it to him, he took it apart and set it up (a bit resized) in their backyard.
It is so cozy inside and looks like a great place to relax and visit with friends.
I took this photo with my back to the corn bin.
When I came back to the garage, where people were gathering, our youngest daughter, Deb, and her cousin Denise were having a good time. Cerwin’s sister, Velda, and I think they almost look like and act like sisters. If you hang out with them very long, you can tell they are related by their giggles and laughs.
When Crystal knew they were coming, those who were supposed to be there stayed in their lawn chairs, while the others went inside the garage. After Elvin and Pat got out of the car, someone opened the garage doors (background) and yelled, “Surprise.” They were quite surprised. Both knew there was a party, but thought it was for those who came to enjoy lunch and listen to bluegrass music.
Cerwin (center) was asked to have prayer before the meal.
Elvin and Pat’s children (Ted, Bryan and Crystal) provided a delicious lunch for everyone.
Elvin (Cerwin’s brother) and Patti both celebrate their 75th birthdays this year. Elvin on May 30 and Pat on August 22.
Following lunch we enjoyed a nice variety of bluegrass music by these four.
A highlight was when Elvin’s grandson Bryson joined them. Bryson’s dad is Bryon (standing).
Bryson will be 10 years old in August.
He is taking lessons on the mandolin and is doing a great job.
He was a bit shy about joining the men, but after he got comfortable with them, they featured him on a song.
His dad was beaming.
I loved how the men encouraged him.
We enjoyed spending the afternoon with family and friends and listening to great music.
I love how your family gets together so often. My daughter and one of her cousins look and act a lot alike, like Deb and her cousin. You can tell they’re related.
We love getting together.
