I searched online to learn more about this succulent to see why the “Hens and Chicks” get long flower stalks.
If I understand correctly, these are mature mother/hen plants that grow tall and have a beautiful flower display.
We usually have one each summer, but this year there are three. They will eventually wither and die. Then the chicks will grow and mature during the late summer, fall and winter to do it all over again next year.
The pretty flowers
There are plenty of healthy, growing chicks which will probably produce more mature “Hens” next summer.
How pretty they are —
I agree.
Lovely. I didn’t know they bloomed like that!
I didn’t either until they matured. I think I may have had they 6 or 7 years before they started growing long flowery stalks.
