It was certainly worth going outside to capture these pictures of the western sky.
It almost looked like fire in the sky.
As I walked back toward the house, I noticed how pretty the patio daffodils looked with the evening sun on them.
Then I made the mistake of wondering how they would look from behind – with the sunset as a backdrop.
I got into a crouching position – which is never a good position for an old lady. I didn’t like this view, so tried to move a bit and get lower…
…the next thing I knew, I was falling toward the bird bath and hit it – hoping I wouldn’t knock it off its pedestal. When trying to keep that from happening, I landed on the window well, breaking the piece of insulation that Cerwin keeps there during the winter to keep the cold out of our basement and to make sure animals don’t use it for hibernating.
By now I am on the ground in a very strange position and getting up seemed impossible. I thought I might have to call out to Cerwin, “Help, I’ve fallen and I can’t get up.” (He is hard of hearing and wouldn’t have heard me anyway.) π
I finally managed to roll into a position where I could stand up.
Oh, the joys of getting old and trying to get into a perfect position for a photo.
If you were at the Ladies Fellowship Brunch at White Oak Church this morning – these pictures are the rest of that story.
A lovely sunset. Beautiful daffodils, and I love the shot with the sun behind, although I know it wasn’t quite what you were looking for. Do be careful when you’re taking pictures outdoors — it’s so easy to lose your balance, or to step backwards off a perch, or to reach too far — and that could spell disaster!
Thanks. I will try to be careful, but there are so many pictures to take. π
I agree — but I try to remember that if I fall and hit my head I may not be able to take any of them! My kneees keep me from crouching, but I’ve been known to step backwards off a step, or trip on a stone, etc.
π
Oh, Doris, I totally understand how that could happen. And the getting up….much easier going down for sure.
π
Doris, please be careful and take care of yourself! At our age we are not as flexible as we used to be!
The result of crouching behind flowers was certainly not what I expected. π
Beautiful – the effect of the setting sun on the daffodils! Glad you didn’t hurt yourself in the fall. And for future reference – you can always call me if needed!
π
I hope you won’t be sore tomorrow. Old ladies need to be careful. Hehee. Glad you can laugh about it.
The bruise wasn’t too bad. It would have been worse if the piece of insulation hadn’t been there.
Thankful you were not hurt and I totally understand. So frustrating when the knees donβt do what they used to do! Love your photos!
Thanks. I do try to be careful, but sometimes the desire to get a good photo takes over. π
As soon as you mentioned getting the pic from another angle, I knew (from experience) that I could start laughing. And I also know (from experience) that Bob would not hear me even if I HOLLER . Understand this blog completely. From another old woman!
Nice to have an understanding friend. π
