The Fruit Basket Committee and many other volunteers were part of preparing grocery boxes, poinsettias, and fruit baskets for those whose names were given to the committee.
They packed 29 grocery boxes.
These go to church members, friends and neighbors – maybe because of hospital experiences, illness or other things that happened to their family. Or they might be a family who serves our church throughout the year.
There were 29 1-peck fruit baskets, 76 1/2-peck fruit baskets and 15 poinsettias. Some are thank-you gifts for those from church who faithfully serve us throughout the year, others go to those over 80, and some whose names are given due to illness, etc. Many go to those in nursing homes.
We tried to get there early, but it looks like someone took a fruit basket before I got a photo. 🙂
There is a signup sheet at church for a week or two before packing day – which encourages members to deliver any of these items.
We delivered two 1/2-peck fruit baskets this year – one to my cousin Marian (a widow). We hadn’t seen her for a while and had a great visit.
We took the other one to Brickerville House Restaurant, where we enjoyed a meal with John and Cathy Stauffer. We wanted to visit them earlier this fall, after a mass was discovered on one of his kidneys – when he was being tested for back and leg pain. The kidney and mass were removed, but that didn’t take away the pain in his back and leg. 🙁
We had a great time catching up on each other’s lives.
The next evening we received a 1/2-peck fruit basket from John and Kathy Diffenderfer who stopped in for a short visit. We received a fruit basket because we are considered one of the “elderly” couples at church. That happens when you reach 80. Cerwin will be 82 next spring. 🙂
We are enjoying the contents of our fruit box which also includes cookies, a nut mix, raisins and candy.

Thanks to everyone at church who served our church members, neighbors and friends in this way.
