I can hear a few of you asking, “So what’s the big deal about a garbage truck stopped at your driveway?”
It is a big deal to me as we only began having garbage pickup this past summer. It is part of us trying to eliminate extra work from our aged/retired lives. We have always burned our trash (and still burn some now and then) and taken our other trash to a local garbage dump.
I am still getting used to putting unburnable stuff in our trash cans. 🙂 We also recycle and have a container (the little bit of red you see toward the back of the truck) for things like cardboard, bottles, tin and aluminum cans.
A bit later I heard the clip clop of an approaching horse and thought it was interesting to watch it and the carriage by the still standing corn field. The corn will probably soon be harvested for shelled corn.
In retirement, I am finding joy in things that others don’t notice or think about. Also, we don’t have a very busy road. Probably 1/3 of the traffic is farm related – tractors pulling equipment and trucks doing a delivery or pickup.
Even in the not-so-big cities here, our trash has been picked up on a weekly basis. We sort it into recyclabales (paper, glass, metal, and plastic), compostables (yard trimmings, kitchen food waste), and other trash. One evening a week, we all put out our wheeled trash bins, and the next day the automated trucks dump the trash into their bellies to be taken to the dump. It works well as long as they don’tleave the compostables until the last pickup of the day!
Interesting.
