We left Mark and Diane’s house about 6:13 am on a cloudy day, so were pleased to see signs of the sunrise as we approached Portland.
We entered a section of fog and drizzle shortly after 7 am.
We left Maine with sun beside us and dark skies ahead.
I expect this fog and rain caused a box truck and trash truck accident in Massachusetts – which had us in stopped traffic for one hour. Diane later told me that the box truck driver was killed.
We continued to travel in rain and fog.
We chose to travel home by the Berkshires in New York to see their pretty foliage.
I expect it would have been much prettier on a sunny day.
More rain.
More beauty during a bit of sunshine.
I think we were close to the Catskills by this point.
We had a half-hour delay between 4 pm and 4:30 pm due to an accident.
Then more than an hour later we came to a standstill on I-78 – just 26 miles from our exit to RT 501. This was our view for 1 hour and 3 minutes.
We finally got home just before 7:30 pm. A drive that usually takes 10 and a half hours took thirteen hours and 13 minutes. However, we were always comfortable – just had to wait. 🙂
You were always comfortable — and you were accident-free! PTL for safe travels.
Yes. Accident free!
I love the contrasts in this post — rain/fog/sun/rain — what a mix! And the color in the trees showed through nicely in all the different weather patterns — how beautiful! I’m glad you made it through without being involved in any accidents, even though you had to wait!
Yes, waiting is much better than being involved in an accident.
