I noticed this thistle next to the fence the other evening while we were watching the first step toward draining the pond at the homestead.
Though they are not considered to be a pretty plant – instead a pesky nuisance – I still find them interesting.
This fading thistle seedhead is even pretty in its own way, but all those tiny seeds will bring forth many more thistle plants – that most of us try to destroy before they grow very tall.
One of the thistle plants is used as an artichoke — they grow wild here along highway edges and other hot, sunny, dry areas! I love seeing them when they are in bloom, but those are the wild ones that don’t get harvested!
