Friday Afternoon
March 18

We went to the drive-through chicken barbecue on Friday afternoon while the mud sale men and women set up for the auctions – which would be held on Friday evening and Saturday morning and afternoon. The meal included a chicken leg and thigh, baked potato, dinner roll, cold slaw (pictured) plus a whoopie pie and drink.
The proceeds from this sale benefit the Penryn Fire Co and Lime Rock Parochial School (Amish).
Each meal included drink and a whoopie pie.
While going through the meal pickup, we learned that there were pies, bread and donuts inside the firehall for early sale.
We looked over the items and chose a berry pie.
After getting home and cutting a slice, I knew right away that the crust was made from lard and not butter. It has been a long time since I had a pie with a lard crust. Oh, my! It was so flaky and delicious.
Because we had to park in the parking area to go inside the firehall we walked around a bit to see what was happening. There were a lot of steel-wheel wagons (used by the Amish) that may have brought items for the sale and would be used by Amish auctioneers.
I expect there were half-a-dozen (or more) auctions – held in tents and from wagons.
I photographed a few of the steel wheels.
This wheel goes with the bench wagon.
A bench wagon holds benches that are used for Amish church, weddings and other events where seating is needed.
Several Amish men were setting up signs outside the tents.
This horse was tied to a wagon while his master worked on the sale.
Another Amish family arriving.
This horse was tied next to the other.
I always enjoy your pictures and accounts of the mud sales. 🙂
This was the first one since Covid started. We didn’t go on Saturday, so I didn’t get to see the actual sale activities.
