Do you ever stop to think about the amount of information you take into your brain during the first hour or two of each day – the things you hear, see, feel, smell and taste?

Today

5:00 AM – my first scent and taste was coffee.

The first words I heard were from the Bible.

I am listening to the Bible in chronical order this year. Today the reading was from the last few chapters of Numbers, not the most exciting part of the Bible, but the reader reminded us to stay alert to what we are hearing, because it is part of God’s Word and plan.

I heard in the last verse of Chapter 35, “I am the Lord, who lives among the people of Israel.”

A great reminder that God is with me today.

Then I opened my Prayer Journal to Day #10 and prayed for our family, friends and acquaintances – even some people in the world I don’t know.

I rejoiced with those who had recent good news and agonized in prayer for those who had recent bad news or are experiencing physical or emotional pain.

There is so much to pray about as I go through my prayer journal.

Transport for Christ has chaplains in Russia. An email recently told me that it is a struggle for them to receive their salary – because of logistics and available finances in the Russian bank. Yet, the chaplains are praying that this situation will bring more people to Christ.

A computer tech (who I only know through remote connections when he fixes a computer issue) told me his girlfriend lives in Ukraine. He is fearful for her.

Next, I checked Facebook, Instagram and MeWe and saw…

The memorial video posted by a friend whose young brother recently died in a car accident.

A friend’s report on their delightful retirement trip.

New baby pictures.

No answer on a missing ring that was precious to my friend.

Lots of pretty scenery pictures and delicious-looking food.

I noticed that a few more people clicked “like” to my Facebook entry last night and there’s a comment on my blog.

My cell phone rings – it’s a son who tells me a friend’s house sold

and for more than they were asking.

That makes my heart smile.

I went for a second cup of coffee, looked outside and because daylight was breaking, I noticed that our only blooming crocus is closed and looking frozen because of the frigid morning.

I went outside (in my house coat) to get this picture. 🙂

Then I savored my favorite morning taste – half of a Costco “everything” bagel.

By then it was time to turn on the morning news.

The price of gas has gone up – again.

It looks like it is going to snow on Saturday.

Must remember to turn our clocks ahead on Saturday night.

The bombing in Ukraine looks awful. I can’t imagine what it must be like. There was a woman giving birth as she was being transported to a safer location.

I see an older couple holding onto each other as they walked through rubble. (That could be Cerwin and me.)

…and it’s only 7 AM.

I haven’t even gotten dressed for the day.

That’s when I began thinking about all the things that have entered my brain in just the first two hours of my day.

Maybe I became aware of my five senses today because I was alone for the first few hours. Cerwin was out on his Thursday morning drive to southern Lancaster County, Lancaster UPS, and a few other farms where he picks up milk, blood, and forage samples from farmers for the Lancaster DHIA lab technicians.

Today I am incredibly grateful to God for my five senses

touch, sight, smell, taste, hearing.
