Mid-Week Excursion & Amish Wedding

I was outside taking a picture of the morning moon when I heard the clip clop of horse’s hooves and thought – this must be the day of the Amish wedding. (Remember yesterday’s post when I thought there might be a wedding in the neighborhood because the Amish church wagon went by our house.)

Horses and vans overtook our road for a few minutes. Amish rent vans to take them to weddings because many come from a distance and are not part of this local community.

Because we had a variety of things to do in the afternoon, we made this our mid-week excursion day. First, we stopped at our niece Amy’s bake shop to pick up the 8 dozen whoopie pies I had ordered for a few upcoming family get-togethers.

I got equal amounts of chocolate, pumpkin, shoofly and red velvet.

From there we headed to Roy’s Body Shop where we had our RAV4 repaired a few weeks ago. They handed in another parts bill to our insurance company. Cerwin had to sign the insurance check.

Just after Cerwin went inside, I thought, “I bet the guys would appreciate fresh whoopie pies.” I went into the office to see how many people were there. When I asked if they would like fresh whoopie pies, their eyes lit up. There were three men. Two chose shoofly and one chose pumpkin. I think I made their day. πŸ™‚

Next, we headed to Mount Joy to pick up an apple pie – a gift from the financial company who handles our retirement portfolio.

Due to COVID we picked it up at a drive-through which is set up at Country Table Bakery – where the pies are baked.

We came home by our Amish neighbors – where we thought we might see some of the young people. They usually play volley ball or another outside game after the wedding is over and the meal has been served.

As we continued by the farm, there was a buggy in front of us, preparing to turn into a farm lane.

An added note about these Amish neighbors: When we came home a few nights later, there were a lot of goats – maybe 50 – in the grass field across the road from us. The field does not have a fence around it. Jacob (the bride’s brother) raises and milks goats, so we figured they belonged to him.

When we drove in Eli’s driveway (location of the wedding) He and Jacob both came to greet Cerwin. Jacob was not worried. He said they will be back because they knew where they belonged. πŸ™‚ Jacob and his wife and children live nearby and were visiting his parents. They have about 250 goats.

Oh, how I love country life.
