August 26, 1961 – August 26, 2021
~~~
I don’t have a date for this photo, but it is one of the first pictures I have of us as a couple. He was 20. I was 17.
On our first date we doubled with Mark Fahnestock and Marcy Henry (now married).
Mark, Marcy, Me, Cerwin – This was obviously not our first date and appears to be a set up picture. 🙂 (We doubled fairly often.) I often wonder who took this photo and why we pretended to be sleeping. I think we were at our house because the photo in the background seems to be my parent’s wedding picture. There is a decoration in front of the picture, obstructing parts of it.
I wrote in my diary – August 26, 1961 – “I had my first date with Kervin High. We doubled with Mark Fahnestock and Marcy Henry. We played miniature golf at New Holland, then went to Joe’s Diner.” [According to my diary, I learned a week later that his name is spelled Cerwin.) 🙂
Sixty years later: We are retired! Cerwin got up early to pick up milk samples for DHIA and later took a TFC Global mailing to the post office for me. I prepared another mailing to take to the post office tomorrow. Supper will be a meal brought to us by Jere and Kristen yesterday: Beef barbecue sandwiches, baked beans, deviled eggs, carrots, celery, olives, with applesauce and cupcakes for dessert. It was leftovers from a work meal celebration, but it doesn’t seem like leftovers, because she has everything packed individually.
Happy anniversary! And what a wonderful memory. A lot has happened in those 60 years, and it’s so nice of Jere and Kristen to help you celebrate and to remember your memories with a supper. Although I didn’t actually graduate, I recently attended a 60th reunion of my Bryn Mawr College class (class of ’61) — it was a lot of fun to see the people who were then my classmates, and to see how much they have or have not changed in the interim! By 1961, I had been married for a year, and lived in Seattle and the islands of Puget Sound — I was there for about 5 years, then returned to Southern California!
Memories and life is so interesting.
So fun! Thanks for sharing! ?
It is fun to have notes and a diary from those years.
This is fantastic! I love to hear about your first times together!!
It if fun for me to relive it as well. 🙂
