Remember when I posted (about a week ago) that the corn was getting tall and it wasn’t even in tassel yet? Rain-13.jpg (1900×1267) (wp.com)
Well, it is in beautiful tassel now.
Maybe it’s because I was thinking about tassels, that I am noticing them in a special way this year.
The male flower of the corn plant is known as a corn tassel. After the bulk of the plant growth is complete, tassels will appear on top of the plant.
The tassel’s job is to produce pollen that encourages the growth and ripening of the corn ear.
Wind carries the pollen to the female flower, or the silk, on the corn plant.
Corn silk is so pretty when it is new. It looks its female part – like a girl’s hair.
I am enjoying taking in the beauty of corn tassels as I look across the many cornfields in our area. These photos are all taken from our patio.
Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’

The corn is as high as an elephant’s eye
And it looks like it’s climbing clear up to the sky
Oh, what a beautiful mornin’
Oh, what a beautiful day
I’ve got a beautiful feeling
Everything’s going my way.
Love it! 🙂 I always change that last line to say “Everything’s going God’s way.” 🙂 And when field corn first begins to tassel, that’s when it’s perfect to pick a couple bushels of the small cobs, husk them, and pickle them. It takes a long time to husk them because they’re so small, so I used to save time and buy a couple quart baskets of them at Farmer’s Market in Waterloo. Love pickled baby corn! J.Jutzi
I like that. Everything’s going God’s way. I am going to remember that.
