The sky was full with moon when I woke up to see May’s full moon. I tried several camera settings, making each photo look a bit different. I used a flash for this one – the reason the sky is lit up around it.
When I googled the moon phase on May 26. I learned that this year May’s full moon was called Super Flower Blood Moon. “Flower” because May is the month of flowers. (The dark spot at the top was from a tree branch.)
From the internet: Late on Tuesday, May 25, our Moon reached perigee — the point in its orbit around Earth that brings it closest to our planet. A few hours later, on May 26, the Moon officially reached its Full phase.
According to NASA, when a Full Moon occurs while the Moon is within 90 percent of perigee, the event is also called a Super Moon.
April’s Full Moon was also a Super Moon, but May’s Full Moon was a tad more super — it occurred slightly closer to perigee than April’s Full Moon, making it appear 0.04 percent larger. May’s Full Moon was the biggest Super Moon of 2021.
Great pictures of the moon! Did you get to see the May moon in its full eclipse?
No, it was cloudy by that time. Did you see it?
I was awake — i could just see the moon from my bed, through a hole in the clouds. I watched as the sliver got thinner and thinner, waiting for it to fully eclipse and turn red — just before that happened, I fell asleep, and missed the actual full eclipse! Oh the joy of having to ingest 8 cups of liquid each day!
Beautiful! Night owl me should start getting up early for such events!
I don’t always get up that early, but when I woke up I remembered that it was supposed to be a pretty full moon.
