I always look forward to when our Lily of the Valley bloom each spring – just to smell them.

When googling Lily of the Valley, I learned that it is highly poisonous if consumed by humans or animals. If I knew this, I forgot. Thankfully, I didn’t plan to eat any of them.

It forms extensive colonies by spreading underground stems called rhizomes (mass of roots). I didn’t know the correct terms, but I can confirm that information is correct as I try to keep them from spreading to the entire flowerbed.

I like to keep some in our flowerbed just to smell them each spring.
How pretty they are! What a shame that they are poisonous, though.
They are pretty and have a fabulous scent.
