Ascension day is when some church’s in our area commemorate Jesus’s physical ascension to heaven. This religious holiday falls 40 days after Easter Sunday.
In our area of Lancaster County, the Amish are best known for celebrating the day by closing their businesses and spending time with friends and family. It’s not unusual to see lots of buggies on the roads and family gatherings. I enjoyed watching some of our neighbors going through the farm driveways with this tractor and trailer (the day the silo was being taken down) to avoid having to go around the block – due to the road being having been closed.
Later in the day I saw them going the other direction as they went home by our house.
It looked like a fun way to transfer a large group of people – maybe to and from a family gathering or picnic.
