We were just a mile from home when two large birds flew away from eating roadkill. I called our son Jere and said, “There are eagles on the road in front of your house.” We are used to seeing turkey buzzards, but were surprised to see bald eagles.

We have been hearing of an eagle in our neighborhood for the past year. I saw one several months ago – now there are two!

Both landed in an old tree in the meadow.

I wish I could have gotten a closer shot, but this is as good as it got for my camera.

After watching them for a few minutes, we drove toward home, turning onto the next road – giving us a new vantage point. About that time one of them went back to the roadkill (below) and the other stayed in the tree a bit longer.

Today (May 13) I heard of another eagle sighting – even closer to our house. Bald Eagles are welcome in our neighborhood. 🙂
